1. He is local. Born in Baton Rouge, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to believe he was is a Saints fan. Playing for the home team is a dream for many. Also he will be close to family and friends, and unlike Mathieu, doesn't need to escape from here.

2. His position is one of need with the Saints, and he would start from Day 1.

3. He will join a team that has a window to win a super bowl.

4. He will play next to an All-Pro in Unger and with another in Evans.

5. The Saints have been known to pay big money to guards.

6. The Saints can offer him the same amount of money as any team, so it's not about the cash and more about the fit.

1.) I think that works against us. Some people would rather the excitement of playing somewhere else. Especially if they spent there ENTIRE lives here already. It's the same as kids going to out of state colleges. Or LeBron going to Miami. Some people just need to get it out of their system. ?

2.) He would start day 1 on nearly any team.

3.) Several teams have a better chance than the Saints. He can pick any of them.

4.) Valid.

5.) For his rookie contact we could only pay him as much as any other team. And that's all anyone is signing him for now anyway. After that contract he could go anywhere that offers him more money.

6.) You just contradicted your previous point. But what is the "fit"? There are many teams that he will fit in just as well. Maybe he doesn't want to play guard?

Not to mention playing somewhere else would allow him the opportunity to get away from the drama that's built up around his current predicament. I'm sure he isn't too fond of BRPD for ruining a once in a lifetime opportunity for him.....

Look, I would be ECSTATIC if Collins signed with the Saints. But as fans we need to take off the rose colored glasses and look at the facts without bias. A lot of the points in this thread are reaches because we WANT him to play here. Nothing more than wishful thinking.

Jahri Evans, Carl Nicks, Jeff Faine were all the highest paid interior lineman at some point . Bushrod got 5yrs/$36M. Hell even DLP was relevant for a while. Plain and simple: Brees gets lineman paid. Collins agent has to know that.

The contracts of interior lineman have been rising so unless he becomes an elite left tackle (which I doubt), he would make just as much money at OG. It would better serve him to come to a very good line with a dominant QB and play OG than to play OT for a team with a weak line and questionable QB.

He should be thinking solely about putting himself in the best situation to get a big next contract. He should go to one of the Saints, Pats, Packers, Seahawks, Cowboys, Steelers, Ravens, Colts, maybe Broncos, maybe Chiefs.

I don't agree and I don't think it necessarily works against us. As a pro he could live anywhere he wants but I'm sure it's the dream of plenty of them to play for your favorite team.

Nearly any team, but not all. Saints would obviously be one of them and therefore we are a fit.

Several teams have a better chance than the Saints. He can pick any of them

A better chance? Don't know about that but yes, there are several teams that have as good a shot as any, and if he wants to play for a winner, the Saints are one of them (I say this because I think the ship gets righted from last year).

Valid.

Yes boom!

Guess I should have specified better. I meant after his initial contract was up. Saints love rewarding guards for playing well.

Hardly a contradiction in any way. Was more to show this isn't some bidding war the Saints can lose in regards to money offered. Basically this levels the playing field and it comes down to who he wants to actually play for since money is taken out of the decision.

Eh, I don't put much stock in that. I don't see him not wanting to play for the Saints because of BRPD.

frick that!
