I've had days where I did not make single cast. It's no better or worse, it's just different.

I had one of those Saturday.

I was on the deck getting my rods together to kayak for reds when my neighbor asks me to go hunt tarpon with him. This guy is a 2 time GI tarpon rodeo champion, so I said "hell yeah". We rode Lake P, The Chef, the holes along the southshore and saw nothing. It was a successful boat ride but we did not cast once. He commented as we rode past all the boats lined up by The Trestles that he could never sit and fish for specs like that. I'm kinda the opposite, I'd rather catch dinner.

I would rather play candy crush.

Tarpon fishing in LA is boring unless you have a lot of fish schooling. Wring time of the year for it also. Plus you were fishing in an area with a low chance to see any to start with. On a calm day south of the mouth of the river, you stand a good chance at seeing and marking schools of fish. That'll get you excited.

It's been a few years but for a long time I was consumed with the idea of landing a tarpon on the fly in the lake. I did a lot of research and spent a lot of money buying people drinks to try and lube them up for information. I need to get back on it, I think it can be done.
