How did this happen? Dude is innocent to the whole investigation and had nothing to do with the death of his ex nor is he a suspect
Wtf

I hope the Saints use our 7th on him. But...I'm almost interested to see where this goes if he does go completely undrafted

Well, he officially goes undrafted. Time to see what happens next

Well, he went undrafted, so now, if his name is cleared, he can sign as an undrafted free agent and play this year. He cannot enter the draft next year though.

No one know if he is innocent or involved. He chose to ignore phone calls from BRPD until the shite hit the fan (which is his right). There are plenty of times when someone does not start off as a suspect and then ends up indicted and convicted (js).

Its a business decision. Do you think he will forget how to be a left tackle in a year? no, he can bigger and stronger and be a 1st rounder in 16.
Why is this so hard to understand? If he goes undrafted, he then is an UDFA and cannot re-enter the 16 draft. He should have never made the comment about being unwilling to sign if he didn't go on day 2 of the draft. If had kept his mouth shut on this, maybe a team would have selected him in the 6th or 7th round. Then he could have refused to sign and then been eligible for the 16 draft.

Is there a limit that teams can pay an UDFA?

Not really. If he is drafted and it turns out that he had no involvement in the murder, he can force the team that drafts him to give him a contract commensurate to where he should have been drafted. If they don't want to pay the fair market price, they forfeit the pick. Collins can then negotiate as a free agent next April. That's better than signing a 4 year contract for 4th round (or worse) money this year.
This is all completely wrong by the way

He probably wanted to go as an UDFA. He'll get more than he would have a 7th round pick and he doesn't have to wait until next year

This is a case study in why choosing the right advisors is kinda important
Posted on 5/2/15 at 6:13 pm to STEVED00
They have to squeeze all udfa's within their limited rookie pool set by NFL per team. Not hardly any wiggle room. They give like small bonuses like 20k to some of the best udfa's

Is it a set # of years of 1st contract?

Hopefully the Saints can sign him then since it will be his pick of whoever is interested.

it has to do with their cap room, slot they drafted in, etc. Here is a link to each team's rookie pool for this year. That is the total amount they have to sign all 1st year players. Typically a UDFA is going to make league minimum.

The most important benefit to being an UDFA is that he can sign a new contract in 2 years. This isn't that bad of a deal for him IF he plays well and stays healthy.
