re: For All The "I Dont Understand Why We Need Another Small WR" Posters...

Hill is 6'5. I really think he is going to shine this year. With no JG, he should get more chances to prove that, JMO.

I'm fine with Dorsett but we still need a big body guy
We don't need Dorsett. Giants had OBJ, but also Roobs. Steelers had Antonio but also Bryant and Miller. We aren't going to he successful if our number one and two are two guys under 5'10" who can't ever win a jump ball or be a legitimate red zone target.
Dorsett would be fun to have I guess in theory, but he'd be a luxury pick. We still need a legit big body to replace the void left by Graham, and eventually, and soon, Colston.
Also 100% This:
quote:
You are overvaluing those big WRs we currently have. Colston is the only proven one, and he isn't much good anymore. Toon has done nothing in 3 years, and the rest are all undrafted maybe-hopefully-please players. So no, we don't have capable big body guys. In fact that is where we are clearly thirsting.
And this:
quote:
Meat, nobody is discrediting the need and advantage of the small shifty WR's, but you are failing to recognize the requirement for balance. You can't have a team made up of all small WRs. The main point of this article is how difficult it is to find the next Calvin Johsnon. Well no shite That doesn't mean there isn't a need for a 6'2"+ WR on a team. Just as a team should never have only big WRs, it should also not have only small ones. Balance is key in order to expose all areas of the field and game
Took the words right out of my mouth.

Lester likes to call Cooks 5'9 even though he's 5'10. He did it after the draft last year too.
Dorsett also measured 5'10 at the combine. I guess anything to boost an opinion

Speed is all relative, given the player's other measurables.
DGB's 4.49 at 6'5" 236lbs makes his skills more functional than Dorsett's, in my eyes. Sure PD can run 4.29 but the size is a draw back.
getting off the line, catching balls in traffic, winning 50/50 balls are all problems smaller WRs have.
Sometimes those extra 2-3" & 10-15lbs are more important than a tenth of a second in the 40.
On another note, I dont understand why people all of a sudden want to count on Ben Watson, or Nick Toon, or some of the other guys on the bottom of our depth chart.
I mean we all hope Seantavious Jones or Coleman can help us out, but to include them on reliable big body guys is just retarded. Ben Watson is going to be 35, the other guys don't have an NFL catch between them, and Nick Toon has NEVER been reliable.

i concur. i'll be happy if we get one of the toons, colemans, jones of the world to contribute modestly to the team. I'm done with Watson, hope we get a better TE 2 option. I've been done with him since he wanted to pray to jesus in a middle of a sideline brawl last year.

Dorsett
Height: 5096
Weight: 185
Cooks
Height: 5096
Weight: 189
those are official combine measurements. It's not something i just made up.

They're being included as our #4 and #5 targets

Antonio Brown is actually legitimately 5'10"
Posted on 4/28/15 at 1:18 pm to TigerBait1127
Not really obvious if people are advocating a midget over a handful of sub 4.5 guys with size who are available past 31, yes?
Posted on 4/28/15 at 1:21 pm to Lester Earl
i'm having a hard time finding these precise measurments, all i see is 5'10.
Posted on 4/28/15 at 1:21 pm to Chad504boy
Cooks was 5'10" 189
Dorsett is 5'10" 185
Cooks
Dorsett
The two are extremely similar from a meausurements perspective. Same height, almost same weight, both have smallish hands and shorter arms, both lightning quick with 4.33 40's and similar other numbers though Dorsett's short shuttle is a bit slow relatively speaking.
Dorsett would not be my pick at #31, but if Payton thinks he can make those two work together then I trust him fully. Dorsett, Cooks, and Spiller on the dome turf would be a crazy amount of speed.

They round up, NFL.com doesn't give exact measurements

Ah, so you go pretty far deep into it then round down instead of including the whole number.
That is 5'10.

I hate it when I agree with Lester. He is 100% correct here though. Welcome to the winning team, LE.

Devin Smith would be a better pick at 31 than Dorsett. Considerably bigger, almost just as speedy. Route trees are both about the same. Plus Smith is arguable the best deep ball tracker in this draft.

Yep, he's a whole .5 inches taller, but still weighed 3 pounds left.
3 POUNDS!!

The list was not reliable big bodies and reliable speedsters. It was a list of all the big bodies and all the speedsters that could potentially be relied upon in receiver/te positions.
To this point we have two proven big bodies with two guys who have shown some potential and two more guys who may have some potential.
On the flip side we have one proven speedster with one guy who has shown some potential but it always hurt/in trouble and one guy who may have some potential. You could add in one more proven part time guy.
The numbers say we are better off with the big body guys.
