Yahoo article

quote:

New Orleans Pelicans coach Monty Williams continued to express appreciation for the franchise’s fans at the end of the season despite hearing boos during introductions at the two home playoff games. But when the boos and heckling were a concern in the regular season, Williams actually told his wife, Ingrid, that it was best that she and their five children stay home.

...

“There have been times where I told her to stay home. And that bothered me that I had to tell my wife and kids to stay home because our fans were booing me and we were winning games. That’s the only time that bothered me.”

also of note...

quote:

Pelicans CEO Mickey Loomis, who also runs the New Orleans Saints, was in Williams’ office after the season-ending loss. Williams will be in the final year of his contract next season and there have not been contract extension talks, sources said. Neither Loomis nor any executive in the Pelicans organization has made a public proclamation stating that Williams will be back next season. Williams’ agent Steve Kaufmann declined comment.

Williams, however, is “100 percent confident” he will be coaching the Pelicans next season.

jeez... Our fans need to knock that shite off, we got to the playoffs and were competitive against a team who shoots really well, and is full of veteran experience.

OH come on. It wasnt that bad at all. Thursday it wasnt really that noticeable and last night more people just didnt cheer when his name was called and there were some boos. But its not like there was a resounding booing that filled the arena.

Ugh, this guy right here must want me to hate him.

Oh....my....best....news....ever....

Game 3 was worth it if this dude's sent packing. It seems like the writing is on the wall. I'm not sure why they would waste another lame duck year logically? I didn't think it possible he'd get fired, but I'm allowing a sliver of hope now.

Further, if Monty can't handle the fire of being a head basketball coach in NOLA of all places, maybe time to find a different line of work or try college. We are about as respectful as can be to "celebrities" and let's be honest. Most of the city sleepwalks through basketball unless we're good.

I think you're getting a little over excited. His wife said she never even heard it.

Only PT could turn this into another "frick Monty" thread.

Guy cares about his family, "frick him."

Its clear though, with the incredible basketball history in our city, the championship banners that hang all over the arena, an 11 win improvement and playoffs is unacceptable. IM SO ANGRY!!!

So...are the Saints trading up or what?

First it was your Halloween decorations are offending me.m, then it was you won't let my daughter play on the softball team bc she's black, then it was golden state's too loud now this....The dude obviously doesn't realize what he signed up for. Imagine if Les complained about the boos.

This article doesn't come out if he was about to pen an extension FWIW.

What do you expect them to say? Yep, we are getting booed by the fans. True story. Williams isn't an idiot. He will of course downplay the crowd hate now that the season is over. Actions speak louder than words. He kept his family from games no matter how he wants to spin cycle it after the fact. He heard them. She heard them. We heard them.

Look, the fact there's an article on Williams future here is a blessing. It at least shows that the Pels aren't committing to him.

@other poster - I've course I read the article. The fact Monty agreed to this piece shows that he is a) feeling some pressure and b) going to be given a positive light by the author. There's the middle ground in that piece.

ETA: heckling him on or off the court with nasty words or allowing your kids to express your opinions at his kids about how their dad sucks (he's alluded to this) is despicable. I Truly do feel for the man for that type of stuff. Getting booed in pregame introductions though is not that crazy of a thing.

For everyone tone that wants Monty out; give me 3 realistic names you replace him with that you think would fit our team.

There's talk here in Dallas that Rick Carlisle and the Mavs may part ways after their playoff series...he would be a tremendous upgrade.
