Updated at 1:28 p.m. — Funding for a new student health center and residence halls at LSU has been threatened amid a state budget crisis that has put Louisiana colleges and universities at risk of deep cuts in the coming year.
National investors pulled out of a large portion of a $114 million bond deal for LSU this week, citing concerns over LSU’s financial outlook, according to state Treasurer John Kennedy.
“We’re trying to sort out the facts. This is obviously not a welcome development,” Kennedy said Friday in a news release. “It could have ramifications for other universities in Louisiana and for the state’s overall bond rating, and it could impact the interest rate on future state bond issues, including an upcoming $300 million state general obligation bond issue.”
LSU, meanwhile, has blamed “inaccurate media reports” for the fallout. This week, inaccurate reports circulated that LSU had begun the paperwork for exigency, a process that is the functional equivalent of academic bankruptcy. LSU President and Chancellor F. King Alexander said in a statement Wednesday that the university had “decided to begin contingency planning for exigency” because of the potential budget threat. Other higher education leaders also said they also were examining the process out of caution.

I bought LSU when it was 14 cents a ton
Now it's 16 cents a ton
That's a profit of... Well you figure it out

F. King Alexander has no one to blame but himself. He spent so much time exaggerating and fear mongering that he scared away his own investors. The guy is an absolute clown.

Fire Les Miles
Hire rookie coach
Save ~4 million/year, apply that towards general funding.
Raise football ticket prices by $10, apply that towards general funding.
Raise tuition $100 per student.
Problem solved. Better solution than screaming scare tactics in every microphone in the state when it's really not as draconian as he's making it out to be.

I'd be insanely surprised if monies collected by the TAF and such for sports weren't barred from being used for this kind of situation.

Sure Les would be cool with letting LSU keep the money left on his contract.

First of all...the funding was for a student health center, family dorms, and the like. Hardly essential things that have to be done....
Second of all, like I said would happen, Alexander and his sky is falling bullshite won't get him what he wants AND it's hurting the unversity...anyone still wanna claim he's right to do what he's doing? Dude is an arse clown.

Were those the new dorms that were supposed to be part of the Nicholson Gateway project? If so, it's a pretty big deal.

I just had to go back to this.
Les has a massive buy out, honestly it's one of the reasons he's still LSU's coach.
If you fired Les and hired a rookie coach, there's a huge chance people would boycott the season.
Boosters would pull back their donations, you would never get another solid coaching hire, assistant coaches would probably all leave, and you'd put LSU football, and all the sports that rely on the monies, almost out of business for atleast 15 years.
This has got to be one of the stupidest things I have ever read on this site.
