Car buying preference: 3 year old luxury car or new ordinary car?

Say you've got about $30k to drop on a new to you vehicle.
Do you go with a new say maxed out 2015 Honda Accord with leather seats, etc. or say a 2012 version of any of the following: Benz E350 or BMW 528 or Lexus LS 450?
I say go with the three year old vehicle.
Or maybe a simpler question is what vehicle would you buy for $30,000?
OT ballers need not reply. I don't need to know what you would buy for your 15 year old now who won't drive for at least a year.

I would buy a 1 or 2 year old vehicle. You can find Mercedes and Lexus and BMW for under 30k. They depreciate like crazy. I would buy an audi or Lincoln mkz or sports car

New car.
Lower maintenance and fuel costs are the kicker.

Are you trying to like the mechanical sensation of the car, as well as save money?

Naw man. I want an 8 year old 7 series BMW with 210,000 miles on it for $4,500. Now, that's a deal!

Depends on vehicle and deal. Really is that simple. Hunt until you find the right one. Whatever it is. I would advise certified used no matter what though.

New car. All day.
Longer warranty for the new one versus what could be a lemon, lower insurance costs (slightly) and better gas mileage to boot.
The Honda Accord is a good choice.
EDIT: I agree on the underpricing of the used cars you listed. Maybe a '12 ES 350 low miles, but not a £S450.

If you're planning on keeping the car longer than 3 years get the newer car.

I would never spend 30k for a accord. Buy a 1 year old of that with low miles and save tons

Until you have owned them for a few years, you have no idea how expensive properly maintaining a German auto can be.

Depends on what you want for the car

A one year old accord with low miles is gonna yield almost no savings vs a new one

Avoid the German brands because of their ridiculously high maintenance costs. You are not getting a deal on a Benz or a BMW that is a few years old. Forget the MSRP "savings" at this point as your frame of reference. No, you are just that much closer to paying big bucks for one or more major service intervals, and that means $$$.
ETA: I would easily spend 30K on a Honda Accord before spending 20K on a used Mercedes or BMW.

I certainly prefer Japanese cars over European cars.
