Kiper 3-Round "A-Grade" Draft (Insider article)

New Orleans Saints
Top needs: OLB, WR, G, CB
Round 1 (13) OLB Randy Gregory, Nebraska
Round 1 (31) WR Phillip Dorsett, Miami (FL)
Round 2 (44) G Tre Jackson, Florida St.
Round 3 (75) CB Senquez Golson, Ole Miss
Round 3 (78) OT Daryl Williams, Oklahoma
Analysis: Gregory might not find New Orleans entertaining, but I'm not drafting him to be a restaurant critic. In his rookie year, I want to cut him loose situationally as a pass-rusher and help us in an area in which we took a step backward last season. Gregory carries some risk because of off-field issues (he failed a test for marijuana at the NFL combine), but as a talent it's hard to do much better at a position of need at No. 13. I'm going to bet my coaching staff can make it work because I just don't see another pass-rusher worth taking right there. Dorsett adds big-time explosiveness in the passing game, a unit that is down Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills. He'll get compared to Brandin Cooks (not a bad thing), but he's even more explosive as a field-stretcher. We have a clear need at guard, and Jackson is fair value in Round 2. I like Golson in Round 3 as a player who can come in and provide immediate help in the slot. He is fearless and will make plays on the ball. In Williams we're getting a tackle who could either stay there (likelier on the right side) or be moved inside to guard. Plenty of needs addressed here.
Edit: There is a link in the first sentence of the article to a twitter post Randy Gregory had calling NOLA "boring"...just fyi..

Drafting an undersized deep threat in the 1st to offset the loss of a 6'7" go up and get it TE sounds brilliant. I'd like a WR, but not Dorsett. 78th pick is a complete waste. Switch Dorsett with one of the ILB's and take a big bodied WR or pass catching TE at 78 and I'd be thrilled with this draft.

this - I personally just don't think fielding a team of small-ish guys is too great long term for injury concerns; same reasoning why I don't love the Golson pick although I obviously don't know what will be available at that spot that would be better.
guess i wouldnt mind the Tre' Jackson pick.

If there's a WR we take at 31, it's the big bodied, physical one. Not Dorsett. If we could grab these first 3 picks -- we're off to a great start!

A guy who played at Nebraska said that?

I guess we're set at ILB then.

I like your draft predictions more than Kiper's.

looks legit because he doesn't have us picking a ILB.

Frick not taking a ILB when this year is loaded with them

Don't see either one of these happening. We just got rid of our character issue problems why would we draft two more?

Who said we were trying to offset giving not losing Jimmy to Seattle?

Sean probably already has a Dorsett poster above his bed so get used to the idea of him being a Saint. Probably not at 31 though more like 44.

I bet we don't even draft a TE. We have Watson and Hill.

fair point...although, relative to gregory, his habit of smoking weed doesn't necessarily mean he will be a problem in terms of "team chemistry"

Does Gregory have character issues beyond the positive pot test? Cuz these days, that's not exactly a glaring red flag of a critically deficient character.

Dorsett is a beast! Very fast! Returner also. Absolutely at 31. Check him out

Senqueze Golson is going to be a great player in the NFL. People worry about a player's strength, his size, and his speed, but what matters the most is a player's instincts and how he plays the game. Golson just knows how to play. he has a knack for finding himself in the right place, at the right time. That's why he had 10 Ints last year. The guy just has what it takes and I think he can definitely be a pro bowler one day. If we got him in the third round I would be elated. Still reppin my boy Delvin Breaux though as the third CB. He will taker Browner's job after this season.

I'm in the get a big guy WR camp. Subtract Graham and likely Colston next year. Need another big target for Drew.
I get the character and leadership thing but I do not think you can exclude Gregory, DGB, etc for this. It could POSSIBLY exclude them. Through evaluation and interviews they might have decided it was just youth or immaturity. Remember Carl Nicks and Anthony Hargrove were key components of the SB winning squad- not to mention Shockey. Pot smoking is supposedly what caused Dan Marino to be drafted after Elway, TODD BLACKLEDGE, Jim Kelly, TONY EASON, & KEN O'BRIEN. It where personality reading is as important as field play evaluation.
