NBA Draft - Mickey's draft spot with latest declarations to enter draft

Has anyone heard any news on where Martin is likely to land with all of the recent declarations by underclassmen to enter the draft?
We all expected studs like justice Winslow, okafor, and towns to declare, but it was never certain that the Harrison twins, booker from UK, Tyus Jones, and others would declare.
How does this change Mickey's chances of getting drafted?

He was iffy to be drafted in the first place. I say he's still iffy.

Mickey will be fairly lucky to be drafted. Martin still goes late 1st

This was my thought also. He did himself a disservice by declaring so early. He should have waited to see who else was going to declare.

Doesn't matter who declares early. At the end of the day he will go overseas.
Getting drafted 2nd round vs not getting drafted really isn't a big deal at all. There is no guaranteed money for 2nd round picks. No guaranteed roster spot. All that happens is one team get's rights to you before anyone else. Not the end of the world that he doesn't get drafted.

He just wanted his quickest ticket out of here. Only hurting himself.
Martin was patient and left when his stock was the highest. Mickey did the opposite, as his stock plummeted, he decided to leave. To me he was never interested in the school thing, probably why he went to Prime Prep where the primary focus is basketball, not school.
All he had to do was come back 1 more year and play a complete year at a high level and he's at worst a sure fire 2nd round pick with the possibility of sneaking into the 1st.

I disagree that it is not a big deal at all. Don't you think he would prefer to play in the nba? Assuming that answer is yes, being drafted as early as you can is very important.
I agree with you that he will likely end up playing overseas. But, I think it's crazy to say that it is of no importance whether he's drafted or not.

Serious question....how many guys go overseas, develop, and then actually make it back to the NBA?
I don't have stats but it just seems like you either get drafted and stick on a team....or you're stuck in D-League/overseas hell for your career.

i should know this but will ask anyways,
isnt there a date when its official if you declare or not?
Or does Mickey technically have the ability to undeclare?
fwiw, im speaking hypothetically

I remember reading on DandyDon a while back speculating why Mickey left early. He said (and I'm paraphrasing based on what I remember reading)that Mickey knows if he comes back he would have to play the 4 or 5 position in college and he didn't want to "play out of position" anymore.
Maybe Mickey felt like he can develop his skillset at the 3 by going overseas for a couple of years. He would never get that opportunity to develop himself as a 3 while at LSU.

Fair enough on wanting to develop at the 3.
We need to start seeing these guys like gymnasts or track athletes or golfers or tennis players. The idea of "team" only exists in consideration of how they develop their overall talent.
While you or I would LOVE to be on a TEAM and try to win a championship, young basketball players who are talented do not think that way anymore. They have been dealt with as an individual for a long time and they see themselves that way. So, they not only go after the money, but they also think about how they can best personally develop for the future rather than help the team win games.
I am not making a judgment one way or the other. It is how things are. But, if he wanted to develop at the 3, then leaving is the best option.
The problem now, though, is that he will never make it in the NBA. He'll wander around Europe playing basketball. There are worse ways to live, though. More power to him!

Mickey will never ever be an NBA 3 if you can't see that from watching him at LSU the last 2 years I don't know what you were watching. Mickey will always be an undersized 4 height wise but with his length and athleticism "if" he develops his skill set could carve out a role in the NBA. Right now with his present skill set, he won't have more than a cup of coffee in the league.

I don't think he's that naïve to think he actually has a shot at this point in his career to suddenly develop a 3's skillset for the NBA. Either you have it or you don't at this point for him, he simply doesn't. He's an undersized PF, period.

You apparently didn't comprehend what he said. Getting drafted in 1st round is big deal. Getting drafted second round doesn't change that much as going undrafted. Either way your not guaranteed a spot on team.

Mickey will fall down draft boards, imo. He was soooo inconsistent once SEC play came. Drops 20/20 then struggles to even get 5/5 several games. Sure some may have been injury, but I think he just got tired of being in school.
There's no way he left because he felt he was playing out of position To say he doesn't the skillset for the 3 is an understatement.
Also, players who go straight overseas (not to skip college, but are forced to), rarely come back and make it. There are a few who will come back to a D-League team, get a 10-day contract, then stick around. But I just don't see it with him

Yep. I'm not butthurt that he's leaving or anything, the team would be better with him coming back but it really would have been in his best interest to stay another year.

I get the intent here, but developing as a 3 in the FIBA environment will not make him any more ready to play that position in the NBA.
Positions are dying in basketball, mostly due to the heavy FIBA influence; they have no positions overseas.

I don't see him playing the 3 at any level in pro ball. He can improve as a 4.

Well I do know that Justin Hamilton did it and is currently on the roster at Minnesota so it is possible.
