Get a foscam and ipcam app. Save 200 dollars and it works better. Not sure why you do not want wifi.

Motorola audio baby monitor $50

Foscam 8910 Pan Tilt Zoom with night vision $65

I have this combo. Works great and easy to set up. You can watch the video from anywhere with a smart phone, tablet, or laptop

We have a Motorola. It's been great, but at $150, it's pricey.

Summer Infant. This is the model we got (gift from my parents). Haven't had any issues. Range has been more than we've needed.

Looking back, I don't think the video monitor is necessary but if your wife is like mine, having the video is money...otherwise she'd have me checking on him every time he makes a peep. I mean, the woman asks me daily if he feels warm and every time I turn around she's got a thermometer in his ear

5 and 2 year old. Never once has either slept in our bed.

I have never understood why parents let this happen. When do they ever have sex?

any reviews i read on the wifi say they lag. im ok with it as long as it has a dedicated receiver screen. I dont want to have to use an iphone or tablet to watch the baby.

also I don't have an ethernet connection in the nursery

More important than video is two-way audio. Sometimes saves you a trip if you can soothe the kid s your voice.

The one that fits best in your closet, 'cause you'll never take it out for baby #2. By that time, your parenting ESP will have kicked in.

exactly. what kids have these days for parenting is unreal. I saw a fan for a baby stroller on a babiesrus gift registry.

We have the summer one. Love it. Added a camera for baby #2. We have creeky floors so to see what's going on before walking over helps. If they're just making noise/crying in their sleep, don't need to head that way.

One plus for a dedicated is they have a large button on top to turn the video on (similar to a snooze button). So if you hear the baby crying or moving around in the middle of the night half asleep, you just swing your arm over and hit the biggest button instead of fumbling with a phone.

Levana Astra

We had a Summer Infant brand that lasted around 6 months, and we replaced it with the above unit. Really impressed with the Levana over the Summer.

A WiFi monitor is still going to be on your local network -- the lag would be no more than a second; not like you'd be seeing footage of your kid in peril on a 30-second delay or something. And just so you know, these 2.4 GHz band monitors are not much different than one that goes through your router in terms of connection speed/quality. It's essentially a closed ad-hoc WiFi network. They're gonna "lag" too. I understand you not wanting one that requires your phone for monitoring though.

Honestly, no need to overthink this. Get a standalone system that allows you to see and hear the kid. Don't even fret over the two-way talk-back capability either. Soothing an infant requires physical touch, not shitty low-fi mono audio squawking from a tiny speaker above his crib. It's easy to get overzealous about baby equipment for your first born, but you can embrace today's tech while still being realistic about what's actually useful.

We went with this one it has over 4000 reviews on Amazon. Got an extra camera for it. Son will be one next month and it's nice to be able to watch him. Monitor
