According to NOLA.com and a report from the Chronicle.com, LSU football players on scholarship will receive $3,096 in additional aid starting this fall as part of an expanded scholarship package.

The increase raises the amount of scholarship aid to $27,288 from $24,192, the report said. That is an increase of 12.8 percent.

Five schools nationally have dollar increases of more than $5,000. Three are in the Southeastern Conference.

Never. Title IX made sure of that.

The lone fact that Nikki Caldwell gets roughly the same pay as Paul Mainieri is telling.

What is the annual revenue for women's basketball vs baseball? For the sake of simplicity, let's ignore tv/media rights, advertising and concession/parking $$:

It looks like women's basketball had average paid attendance around 2,500 for 17 home games at about $10 per ticket for a total of $425,000 - let's round up and call it $500k.

Baseball is 11,000 for 34 home games at about $10 per ticket for a total of $3.74MM.

Something's wrong here, shouldn't the funding be based upon the funding...Title IX is simply unAmerican

Let's be fair here though.

NCAA baseball is no where close in terms of overall viewership as NCAA women's basketball. Outside of the south no one really cares about college baseball.

So nationally women's basketball brings in more money, therefore to compete in that sport you must pay more since its inflated to a higher worth than baseball is.

Also, our baseball doesn't sellout our games. I myself have only been to one this year since I live out of state now. There may have been 3-4k there.

That said, for the university, baseball makes significantly more money than women's BB.

I have no doubt that the LSU baseball was viewed (tv) by more than Lady Tiger basketball during any of the past 25 seasons. I assert the same for radio and online viewing.

I pulled the actual paid attendance figures for the 2014 season.

Ticket revenue is chump change. The money is in TV rights to which college baseball makes basically nothing.

I think the point he's making is that baseball is good for "this school" so why not allow "this school" to give scholarships as they see fit.

Right?

Absolutely, each school should be allowed to budget (scholarships, coaches salaries, facilities etc) based upon revenue contributed per sport at that school.

Gender should not matter - attendance/ticket sales (plus concessions and apparel licensing) and media ratings bring the revenue and, thus, spending should be allocated on the basis of what each team brings in.

I read an article a couple of years ago that said Vanderbilt had a big recruiting edge in baseball because they can piece together full scholarships for their players while schools like LSU can't. They never explained how, but if true, that seems to me a huge advantage.

Maybe one of you knows how they work it.

Since, IIRC, Corbin was one of the proponents for doing away with the old bats (that favored LSU's style of play)I thought that was ....what euphemism can I use?....interesting.

I'll admit that college baseball isn't the most popular sport in the world, but nobody but players' families and butch lesbians care about women's basketball.

Baseball and football are the only sports at LSU that make money.

I think title ix was a good thing, but I seriously doubt a school like LSU would scrap women's sports if it went away.
