The logic in the answer makes sense, but the way it's worded is somewhat hard to follow.
I know I'm splitting hairs with this. I just get annoyed when an "real-world" example had logic that requires, but doesn't state, that Albert and Bernard can reason without error. How does Albert know that Bernard is not a complete idiot or vice versa? It could be sort of a game-theory type dilemma. That being said, that's not much of a real-world example then.

I read the first page, and saw all the fail, and just stopped. I'm sure the answer has been posted. I don't care. But I'm going to show my work.
Albert knows the month but not the day. Therefore, he cannot possibly know the whole date. However, he knows that Bernard doesn't know the whole date either. Based on that, we can conclude that Bernard was not given a day that's unique to a single month and therefore Albert was not given a month that has a possible unique day. 18 and 19 are the only unique days, and they are found under June and May respectively. We can eliminate all May and all June dates.
Bernard then affirms that based on the day he was given, he did not know Cheryl's birthdate. However, based on the fact that Albert knows that Bernard was not given a unique date, Bernard also now knows that May and June are out. By eliminating May and June, Bernard says he now knows Cheryl's full birthdate.
The only way Bernard would know is if he were given a day that's unique among July and August, so we can eliminate July 14 and August 14.
This leaves us with 3 possible dates. But since Albert also knows the whole date based on Bernard knowing the whole date, then it couldn't possibly be in August because that would still leave a 50% chance of Albert being wrong. So Albert was given a month that's unique to the three remaining dates.

I've been thinking about this for too long, driving myself crazy. With only seeing the OP and first response, this is the best I can guess:
What we know: Albert was told the month and Bernard the date (I really hope this right and not a translation issue).
Albert, having the month, says that he knows that Bernard doesn't know the birthday. This means that the month he was told shares all of its possible dates with other months (otherwise Bernard might have been given a date that is only in one month, giving him the answer immediately).
This means he either has July (14 shared with August and 16 with May) or August (14-July, 15-May, 17-June). May and June both have a unique date (19-May and 18-June).
Albert saying what he said first, Bernard also now knows that it is either July or August. The fact that he can say that he now knows the birthday, means he was given a date that is not shared between July and August. 14 is shared, so he has to have 16 to be sure he knows the birthday. Albert can now assume that since Bernard knows the birthday based on his original statement, that it can't be July 14, because the 14 would leave the possibility that Albert was told August.
Answer - July 16.

July 16th. But that was #24!!! It took me about 6 minutes to figure that out.
I would have given up on that test long before the 2hrs and 18 minutes that it took to get to #24. (assuming they all would take similar time)
So, my answer is: props to the Singaporean 14 year olds.

Albert KNOWS Benard doesn't know. That rules out distinct days.
Once Benard hears the above from Albert he knows that rules out June 18th and May 19th. Since Benard knows the month, he knows the answer. That leaves a month with only two options AND that has a unique day. That month is June.
Answer: June 17th

No.
You are correct that Bernard not knowing means it's not a unique day. But the only way Albert could possibly know that Bernard wasn't told a unique day is if Albert was told a month that doesn't have a unique day. That rules out all June and May.

There is only one 18th on the list while all other dates and months repeat.

Yeah. I tried to edit after I noticed that. a-hole.

You WAY over-complicated it.
Al knows Ben CAN'T know. That rules out all of May and June as both months have unique days to all dates.
Ben NOW knows. That means he knows the REMAINING unique day/month combo - 16. The only month that matches is July. Albert knows that 7/16 would be the only unique combo left (and he knows the month). Ergo they both know.

I would agree with the logic, but I'm not seeing how May 15 and 16 can be eliminated. I feel like one can make a case for either July 16 or August 17.

I'm just baffled by the responses here. This happens every time a test question/math problem is posted here. Everyone wants to chime in first with bullshite, but then the thread continues for pages and pages with wrong answers. These very same people try to feign intelligence in other threads; you'd think they wouldn't be so eager to lift the veil.
