Question for those that live in BR and surrounding areas re:schools

I am in the process of transition to a new job from Alexandria to Baton Rouge. The job pays better and I get a company truck and corporate card and premium work schedule. My wife supports it so we are planning to move. She is a certified teacher and has 2 years experience.
Does anyone have any knowledge of what places in the surrounding areas of Baton Rouge need teachers? We were looking at places like Denham Springs or Prairieville or Zachary. We don't plan on living in BR. My job will involve me covering BR to Slidell to Houma. Just seeing what areas have a need of certified teachers to see where we can move to.
Thanks OT

Well EBR has the greatest need for teachers. You might still find something in the LP or AP, but EBR these days seem to be at the most need.

Sounds like you're already headed in the right direction.
Anything but BR unless she wants to teach private school.

Denham is simply too crowded these days though its an ideal place to find work if she can snag it within LP Public Schools.
My suggestion would be to get out towards Walker. If this move is with the long-term in mind, you may wanna give Satsuma and/or Livingston a look-see. They'll be up and coming over the next decade as folks who grew up in Denham-like I did-and moved to Walker to get away from the sprawl-like I did-want to burrow even further into the veritable cultural Mecca that is Livingston Parish-like I do.
Zachary is a looooooooooong ways away from everything you're going to come to Baton Rouge for. Trust me when I tell you this. It's self-contained but its just the opposite way of growth long-term.
Prairieville will get a lot of pub but it's Baton Rogue Lite and who wants to mess with the noveau riche Gonzales Plant Operators who wanted to "move to the suburbs" and get away from the big city of G-Town?

I'm from Baton Rouge and we have friends from there. The first thing they told my wife was not to teach in EBR.

EBR has the greatest need and they pay really well. However, unless she's teaching kindergarten, it's not worth it. The bureaucracy and kids are terrible. Central, Denham, and AP are where it's at.
Private schools are also an option, but the pay and benefits are no where near as good. However, they often come with better kids, less burdensome administration, and better parents.

There are a small number of great teaching positions in EBR, but they are more difficult to get than even the positions in Zachary, Livingston Parish, Central, etc. areas, and those alone are very tough to get even for experienced teachers native to the community. In EBR, there is always a pool of teachers who want to transfer from their current position/school to one more desirable within the district. Those teachers are prioritized before new hires, and even they don't necessarily get the transfers they want. At best, new hires have quite a selection of the vacant AKA undesirable positions that are left behind by transferring existing EBR teachers.

You certainly should be more selective in the school choice for teaching in EBR. I'm just saying that teaching jobs are a lot tougher to come by in most of the outlying parishes. That's where most other people want to teach. Good luck though.

The job route is Baton Rouge down to Houma and LaPlace then straight up to Jackson, MS to Vicksburg then back down straight to BR. However 75% of my time is BR and surrounding areas. So being within reasonable distance of BR is all I need. Wife can work in any parish in the state.

Central >>>>> Denham Springs or Prairieville or Zachary
But really, these are the places that you would want you wife to work, in that order.

Livingston Parish-Similar to Deville/Buckeye area. But good schools if you like rednecks.
Prairieville-richer white flight area, pretty good schools.
EBRP public schools suck and are getting worse.
Where do you live in El-lick? Prairieville would be like West Pointe/Landmark. Denham like Tioga/Deville. Except worse traffic anywhere down there.

Get her a helmet, bullet proof vest and some karate lessons; start working in EBR.

What is she certified to teach? Where and what did she teach the last 2 years?

We live in Cherokee Village in Alex. Wife works for a rural high school that covers Lecompte and Forest Hill so she is use to the country type school.
I know here in CenLa there is a demand for "certified" teaches everywhere and at every school across many parishes. I was in the mindset that the demand is great down in the BR area.

Sounds like Prairieville is your best option.

Hmmm, Denham Springs or Walker High might be most similar, but less messicans. Not too many small schools like there are here.

She's fully certified to teach in English and Social Studies 7-12 and has taught 7, 8 social studies this year and 9, 10 social studies and English last year. High marks on all her evals as she was taught the new common core type of teaching an prep so her admin lovers her.

Girlfriend taught one year at EBR public schools. She hastily went to work at AP public schools (Dutchtown) and loves it. Look at ascension parish.

If i was a teacher and had to teach in EBR, I would shoot to land a job at one of the "real" magnet schools in BR or Parkview Elementary.
e: McKinley middle, Sherwood middle, BRMHS
Attempt to be a baby sitter at any other school isn't worth it
