8lb test and under = spinning
Popping cork = spinning
10lb test and over = casting

I've never been able to operate an open faced reel without bird nesting it. For what I do the spinning reel is all I need.

Spinning - can fish in any condition without bird nests.

Casting. More comfortable and I'm an adult.

spinning = wind, corks, carolina rig / dropshot
baitcaster = accuracy, tight line
baitcaster = accuracy, tight line

Casting unless its windy as hell, then spinning.

Shows how much I know. I always thought people referred to casting reels as open faced faced reels and vice versa.

I prefer the old-school open-face Ambassadeur bait casters because of the amount of control in cast placement, but have learned that spinners will cast further out.

depends on the application.
popping corks = spinning
light line = spinning
all else = casting.
mostly casting because I need precision to get in front the fish I see, spinning is not nearly as accurate or stealthy inside of 30 feet.

you are correct
alx was just being a smartass because spinning reels do not have a cover, so therefore, they are technically "open faced"

Spinning if I my target is under 10 lbs
Conventional if it's bigger than that

Since I am over 40 and much prefer a spinning reel, does this mean I never really grew up?
