There are quite a few 800+hp grocery getters because of this car and the pontiac G8. I wouldn't own one, but they are ungodly fast.

The reason they "hold their value better" compared to a 2wd is because they cost $3-$4k more. Of course it will look like they command a premium on the secondary market, but it's an illusion.

Spend 4k up front, sell for 3k more later

1k for a few years of peace and mind

That's how I look at it, even though I do use 4wd 3-4 times a year

Eta: I know there are other costs, fuel, etc.

not trying to start one of your 6 page arguments

Nothing wrong with that line of thinking. But the myth that they hold value better is just kind of silly. I think it was created by car dealers to upsell someone on 4wd that they really don't need.

ETA: There's no 6 page argument to have They're worth more used because they cost more upfront. That's all.

Nothing worse than all seasons and 2wd in ice amd snow. I could see if there was a noticeable difference in mileage, but thwre really isn't and a 4x4 holds it's value better

Same here. I live in Birmingham. We don't get bad weather that often, as far as snow/ice, but I was damn sure glad I had my Jeep when it hit us last year. Not many people made it out of the gridlock that hit downtown, much less to drive up and over some steep icy hills and get home.

I had two 4wd trucks before getting my Tahoe. Tahoe is 2wd. I rarely ever (I mean maybe 2 times in 7+ years of having 4wd vehicles and by no means had to) used the 4wd in everyday driving situations. I used it on the deer lease, but that is a very small portion of what I used the vehicle for. I'm not spending the extra cash to buy 4wd unless I really plan to use it outside of everyday driving situations (start hunting where trucks are allowed on the lease again, large boat at the boat launch, etc.). As for now, buying 4wd is just unnecessary in the South.

that one is a bit extreme...but as far as rv's and travel trailers go,not everybody is crazy about staying in nasty hotel/motel rooms.they are great for taking trips and spending time with family

It is obviously a 100k+ R.V. That is not the same as your run of the mill 30k Rockwood 30 ft camper that most sane people have. The O.P. is spot on about how asinine those luxury R.V.'s are, unless that is the only "home" someone owns and they travel constantly, it's a 100k+ waste of money sitting there and maybe moves 2-3 wks a year. Your argument is completely irrelevant.

I will bite. What is up with black dudes and cars with logos on them? I have seen one around town painted like an M&M's package and another with Dr. Pepper logos.

They're gang members and criminals hiding in plain sight. They've obviously eluded your detection by your comment.

Just like Nascar jackets more recently and Starter jackets in the 90s, you can't write Crips or Bloods on your car or wear bandanas to indicate your affiliation, but most people are confused or at least not intimidated by a Jeff Gordon jacket, a New Era hat or a consumer product logo, while their rivals, customers and police know exactly what they indicate.

This is a vehicle I very much understand. If I owned this, all I would ever do is drive.

The last Ford GT has increased in value dramatically, so I'll go with smart people.

This.

I talked shite to my dad for months because he drove a Ford Platinum that wasn't 4x4. He eventually shut me up by getting a badass f-250 that was 4x4.

I hate how low a non 4x4 truck is to the ground and will personally never drive one. I would rather be prepared than be in a situation where I needed it and not have it. To each their own though.

I remember thinking along the same lines when the GT first came out, then about 6 months ago I started looking at them on Ebay. Common thought was that a car that sold for ~$150k new should likely be in the <$100k area after 10 years, right? Nope, not only did they maintain value, they've increased significantly. The cheapest one currently listed is $183k and has a salvage title. A clean GT is fetching $250k+ it seems.

My submission, lifted 4x4 trucks on really stupidly big rims. 26" x 14" for example.

Cosign. My first truck was a 2WD (granted it was a hand-me-down), which sucked in winter and going hunting.

When I bought my wife's Tahoe a few years ago, I insisted we get one with 4WD. She griped about how it was unnecessary....and then got racked with multiple snowstorms that winter. Haven't heard a peep out of her since about it.

IMO 4WD is well worth the increase in sticker. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
