Better coaching job for college basketball: Texas, Indiana, St. John's, Tenn.

Which is the better job between Texas, Indiana, St. John's, and Tennessee? All 4 have perks...
Indiana has the most history and prestige. The Hoosiers are also the main event in town.
Texas has the money factor, but it will always play second fiddle to the Longhorn football team.
Tennessee, much like Texas, will be second to the football team.
St. John's is the lone outlier of the three as the small, private Catholic university, but they have a tremendous history and the obvious New York City recruiting advantage.

indiana is basketball first... so i would probably go with them. Always been a basketball school.
Texas and Tenn is a toss up, texas has the money... tennessee has the support from fans. But as stated basketball is 2nd fiddle to both.
St johns- its just faded away over the years.

Definitely not St. John's or Tennessee
I'd say Indiana but Texas is a great spot as well.

If I am an elite coach, I would rate them in this order. Texas probably has the most in state talent and an elite coach could lock the state down. Indiana gets kids from Chicago and Nap Town but I think Texas would be more appealing. St. Johns is historically a better basketball school than Tennessee and has more talent to pull from, although an elite coach might consider going to Tennessee due to the surrounding talent in NC and ATL.

Much less pressure at Texas too.

I think Boeheim/Syracuse and Jim Calhoun's UConn resurrection had a lot to do with that. Aside from the few good seasons here and there, St. John's had trouble keeping the talent in as they'd flock to Syracuse or UConn. I think the right coach at St. John's, especially given the current situation of both of those schools, can easily flip that.

1. Texas
2. Indiana
3. Tenn.
4. St. John's
There's always a lot of top talent in Texas. If you can start winning and secure those kids, you can be set for awhile. Barnes missed a couple years and suffered for it

Texas. Less pressure, more money. You could easily win a title there too.

On the money part I'm pretty sure Crean's base from his 2012 extension was 3.2 and Smarts deal is worth 3 a year. As far as overall funding though Texas certainly has more money but if you win at both schools I think you would earn more at Indiana

1.) Indiana - It's Indiana...they are a blue blood...I lump them with Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, and Duke.
2.) Texas - If you could just lockdown the talent at Houston/Dallas, you'll be fine. The pressure isn't there and the money is.
3.) Tennessee - Tennessee has great facilities. The state of Tennessee is pretty big on basketball as well (Memphis, Nashville). Although Tennessee is a football school, I've got a feeling that a real winner could have that fanbase resembling more and more of Kentucky.
4.) St. John's - I can't tell you what conference they are in. Does NYC have a real connection to the school? It's been a long time since Metta World Peace and Bootsy Thornton were running things at MSG.

It depends. A guy like Donovan would much rather be at Texas than Indiana. A guy like Calipari or Coach K would choose the opposite.

Tennessee because it doesn't take much to crack into the 3 spot consistently in the SEC.
Most Big 12 schools care about basketball at least as much as Texas. The Kansas schools, OK State, and Iowa State care more.
Indiana has to leapfrog Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan State, probably Michigan and Maryland to be consistently good again.
The days of metro schools in big markets like St. John's and DePaul of over. In this era of college basketball, the big city recruits know they get more exposure and glory going to Duke, Louisville and Kentucky.

I think, all else equal, most college coaches would still select Indiana.

Indiana used to be blue blood. The prestige has worn off quite a bit over the last 10-15 years. I'd rank them 2nd to Texas. Kids these days don't want tradition and prestige, they want big attention at big places with lots of resources and money.
Tennessee and St. John's are a distant 3rd and 4th.

This is not as difficult to do in basketball as it is in football. With the right coach Indiana becomes a top 10 team quickly.

St Johns is in NYC, but so is Fordham, a school with similar resources and student population. Fordham has a decent old-time tradition too, although they've never been to a final 4 (St JOhns has been to 1) and aren't in as good a league. I just don't see St Johns as anything special.
Texas has the most resources; Indiana has the most tradition. One of those 2. Tenn has Memphis and Atl nearby. Good coach can win at any of them.
