If Ryan Griffin still in college where would he or not be drafted in weak class

Several mock drafts show the saints drafting a Qb however with a weak qb draft class i think Griffin could come off the draft board as high as say pick 126th so to me if saints do not pick a Qb in 3rd round or trade back into 4th round they already have a young qb to groom on the roster. To me only use one of these picks 148th-154th-187th-230th on a Qb if you think Griffin is ready to take over the number two spot on roster an in a weak Qb class you would need to draft a Qb late to have one good enough to be the 3rd string Qb most likely to be on Practice squad all year baring injury to Drew.As i recall there was an good article in 2013 as Griffin being the one un drafted Qb that should have been drafted was Griffin in 2013 as it was a much deeper Qb class.

Neither Griffin nor any mid round pick this year will be Drew's successor.

Agreed, I think we have enough depth problems on this team to NOT draft a QB at all this year. Would be highly dissapointed if we do. What happened to the tall skinny guy? Didn't we re-sign him to a one year?

That's a safe bet.

While Griffin did indeed leave a lot to be desired in his limited preseason action last year, obviously the coaches see something in him to take him off of the practice squad during his rookie year so the Rams wouldn't pick him up.......That's why I wish Payton would have played him against TB the last game last year to see what you have in him and let him get some meaningful real game snaps and not just preseason and practice

Yeah like long term backup is valuable if he's a good offensive fit

Quote-Neither Griffin nor any mid round pick this year will be Drews successor. You all get my point to me if you take picks 128th thru 256th picks the Saints not likely to find someone who could push Griffin off the roster. If you take all of Griffins pre season work its been good enough to beat out about one third of Nfl 2nd stringers.Which is why the Rams made a move to try an snatch him off saints practice squad. To me luke Mc Cown is a top 3rd Nfl 2nd string qb which is why at age 34 he is still in the Nfl.I think with Drew its the 2015 an 2016 seasons to make it back to the superbowl so why waste a top half draft pick when Drew is the top dog for two more years an Saints need every top half draft picks they have or can trade down for to shore up the weak points on the roster. They need these top half picks for the next one or two more years time frame for the last runs with Brees to make two last real trys for deep runs into the playoffs.Esp. if they trade down to get more picks i would be ok on a 6th or 7th round pick for a qb this years draft only if you Think Griffin ready to push Luke out of No,#2 Qb spot a hard thing to do as to me lukes a very good 2nd sting Qb who coud do as good of a job as say the starters for 3 to 6 Nfl teams.

it's brutal. the only way I every make sense of his posts is by reading the responses. I ain't taking the time and effort to translate.
To the points you made about replacing Drew, you are spot on. No mid round pick this year nor Griffin will be that guy. To replace him, it would have to be a 1st-3rd round guy, most likely 1st-2nd. Only two QB's are starting in the league drafted after the 3rd round. That's a heavy stat

Griffin is being groomed as a cheap backup QB which are pretty important with 35+ yr old starters. Griffin will be lucky to be a career backup, maybe a spot starter every now and then on a bad team. I think his best case scenario is a Ryan Fitzpatrick type career.
ETA - I hope we don't draft a QB this year. When Drew craps out I want to suck it up for a year with Griffin as starter and clear out our cap that year by cutting players and absorbing their dead money. Then we can draft our franchise QB with a high first round pick and we have a QB on a cheap contract for 4 years (assuming we resign before the 5th)

But yep you did read because as you say i spot on.However you never know as Tony Romo an Curt Warner also Delhomme were ufda quaterbacks also Tom Brady was a 6th round pick. Some trvia for ya when Delhomme in what was a neck tight race in Nfl europe did not start over Warner the num nuts saints fans all went on an on about He would never be a starting Qb.The coach of the team was quoted it was a very hard call as Warner and Delhomme were very close in camp an he only went with him because if you consider Warner arena starts he was the more experinced quaterback.

You just need an introduction to spaces. If we could bust up that wall of text I think this would be going much smoother..

I think Ryan Griffin still has plenty of upside. Big strong armed kid and smart. Don't give up on him yet.

I pretend I am Christopher Walken when reading his posts. Walken removes all punctuation in his scripts, and that's how he delivers his lines so uniquely. It makes for an interesting read. Still it makes no sense, but at least it's entertaining

Henten, I am sure you are making decent points in what you are saying.
but for the love of everyone's vision, if you can edit your post to add something you missed - please add spaces so it is easier to decipher what you are saying.

It's more than that.
Tony Romo - Undrafted
Zach Metternberger - 6th Round
Brian Hoyer - Undrafted
Tom Brady - 6th Round
Matt Cassel - 7th Round (Some depth charts are putting him ahead of Manuel)
Most of the starting QB's are 1st or late 3rd round though.

Romo and Brady are the only two that are starting. The others have started games, but they aren't the starting qb's of any of their respective teams. Mett may break that trend though. Hoyer was a seat warmer. Cassel was a starter for a while but was a failure.

Mettenburger would have started over half the season for the Titans last year as a rookie if he didn't get hurt, and he's going into this season as the projected starter.
Brian Hoyer was the starting QB for Cleveland last year, and he'll be the starting QB for the Texans this year unless they plan on drafting and starting a rookie. Who's going to beat him out Ryan Mallet?
Like I said Matt Cassel is projected on some depth charts as the starter for the Bills. I think Manuel starts the season just to see if he's made any progress and when he shows he hasn't Cassel will finish the season as the starter.
