Maybe somebody will think dropping a dime will be better than the feds breathing down the whole neighborhood's neck for the next year or so. Just an idea, I don't know.
We use tactics like this all the time. For example, if we know someone in an are has a bunch of stolen shite we will make our presence felt. Usually only takes a few days and someone gives it up.

Nothing but meth, corn and cotton up there.
The truth will come out before spring break is over.
Kid will be at his buddies house, pop a top on a few too many milwaukees, turn the luke bryan down for a second and drop the mic.

Seems they only targeted people known to hunt the area... that's profiling.

Wow
Now I know how good it feels to say that...

You're not getting the point. If you have one guy holding a gun and another guy holding a water balloon, which one would you suspect of shooting the bird?
They are trying to question anyone who had access to the property in hopes of finding the person who did it. It helps to know who to ask.
Would you have a problem if they just randomly started asking people on the street? If so, how do you expect them to get any information or clues as to who was in the area or had access to the area?

Autopsy to identify the weapon.

Surveillance.
I'm not trying to argue the point about questioning neighbors. I get it, they are looking for the easy answer. I am simply making a point about starting with land owners who happen to be hunters who are most likely good stewards of the land and intimidating them for no reason other than to attempt to get them to roll on something they no nothing about.
These are good people who deserve to be treated with more respect.

starting with land owners
More than likely they are the culprits in these types of situations, or they have the highest possibility of seeing someone sketchy around the area that day

They definitely have the tools for the job.

intimidating
This is the only problem I see. If they did it just to be dicks, then they are in the wrong. If they did it to purposely flush out the culprit, I see how that tactic could work and I have no problem with it.
You seem like the kind of guy that wants to be a dick to cops simply because you can when the situation doesn't call for that type of behavior.
I'm all for civil liberties, but not every occasion calls for you to display your knowledge of the fifth amendment.
Not every landowner that happens to hunt is a bad guy. On the flip side, not every one of them is an upstanding individual.
Not every cop is bad, but, there are certainly cops that use their power to over step the law. There are definitely cops that simply think they're above the law because they have a badge.
In short, it sounds like you profile at the same time as claiming profiling happened to your buddy.

I see those birds all the time in Verret and TB. Can't imagine wanting to shoot one.

You're being a whiney pussy. Are you 14 and just had your first civics class?

There's at least one and probably two pairs that nest around Cross Lake. Look around after you get off the bridge between the lake and Lakeshore and you'll find the nest.
There's another old nest on the west end on an island but I haven't seen them there in a long time so I think it's abandoned.
Anybody that would shoot an eagle for shits and giggles should spend some time getting tenderly loved in Angola.

We saw a couple this past weekend at TB... Just an awesome sight. They also have a pair at Kincaid.

I learned about turning jackboots like you around at the property line long ago.
