That's awesome. I wouldn't expect less from a guy like him

I wonder what Ed Cota is doing now. That dude was a hell of a PG in college

Very good Lester. Indeed. Ed Cota was a 4-year guy, Forte a one and done sadly at his own expense.

He didn't have to do anything at all...
Let's say checks were sent out to 200 players.
$200 to 200 players is $40,000.
Again, he didn't have to do anything. He could have given $0 and nobody would have said anything because giving money away to former players is not something people do.
But he gave away $40,000 when he didn't have to.
And it was in his will apparently.

Ed Cota played for both.

I think he played two years. Seemed pro ready but I guess he was a tweener and didn't respond well to being a bench player.

Forte actually stayed 2 years

One season under Dean, but Guthridge was pretty much running the show.

I didn't know Shammond Williams was an assistant at Tulane. I went down a wiki hole looking at old UNC players and came across that

i was waiting for someone to catch that but you can't have a dante calabria sighting on the MSB without bringing up forte ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbow.gif)

you might be right, would have been as a Freshman

I think he backed up Williams his freshman year and came off the bench. Those mid-late 90s UNC teams were so stacked

Former UNC center Serge Zwikker told me he teared up when he opened the $200 check from Dean Smith, says he won't ever cash it

My first thought was to current lettermen......more sanctions to come......classy thing to do for all the guys he coached.
