Mickey/Simmons/Victor > M&M
IDK.
I will say Victor will be a better on ball defender down low. We had no one to really play on ball defense in the post this year. Not exactly sure what to expect defensively from Simmons, but I know he is agile and has length to be a good defender.
On the offensive end, we won't need a ton of point production, but I think Victor is suppose to be a very good rebounder. Hopefully we can block out and not give up so many offensive boards.

I think he is saying it's wishful thinking that Victor could be available at the beginning of the season. Probably better chance he has to wait till spring semester to play.
His hardship waiver should be cleared and he'll be eligible to play immediately

If Mickey follows Martin unfortunately I don't see us making a deep run in the tourney unless we get more out of the freshmen coming in than I expect. We will still have practically no depth in the front court which means Simmons and possibly Victor will have to play 35 minutes a game assuming we still cant get quality minutes out of Malone or Robinson III. I really hope one of them 2 step up, and Epps.
I'm still holding out hope Mickey gives us another year. If not Victor playing power forward and Robertson playing center will not be out of the question. Robertson has already transformed his body from when he first got here and hopefully that will continue. He has the size to be a good SEC center he just has to get there with his play. I think Victor will be a stud if he can play power forward for us, I do think asking him to play center like we do Mickey is a bit much though.

I disagree.
Martin really didn't turn it on until the last 1/2 of the season and was a no show still, in some of those games. I'll predict that Simmons will be better, or as least as good.
Mickey's shot blocking was incredible, but it sounds like Victor might be more what we need next season.

It certainly is too early to declare which pairing will be better, but Simmons and Victor can certainly be better. Simmons is a much more skilled basketball player than Martin. His greatness will depend on how he handles the pressure of being "the guy" as a freshman. Mickey was great at blocking shots, but consistently was pushed around by low post players. If Victor can be a more efficient rebounder and play complete defense, he will be a huge contributor.

If M&M both leave, our team FT % will go up!

The team will go as far as Josh Gray goes.
I agree with this statement for this year for sure. It's too bad Gray was so inconsistent. I think that demoting him from the starting lineup hurt the team in the long run. His minutes were too limited. A solid Gray out of the gate could potentially set the pace for the game. If he came out bad, we had a solid and consistent sub in Patterson, but Gray would still eat 10 minutes before it was clear he wasn't going to have an amazing game. When we switched to Patterson as a starter, we had an inconsistent sub coming in off the bench in Gray. Even when he played well at the beginning of games like against NCSt, Jones was scared to go back to him late due to his tendency to stick with starters in close games. I think those more limited minutes had a negative impact on his confidence when he was playing well and prevented that much needed spark when things got close. I think Gray's performance against Arkansas exemplifies my point.

Regarding whether Craig Victor will be eligible to play at the beginning of next season, as opposed to the start of spring semester in January:
Hope this is true and not just optimistic thinking--It seems like the NCAA has done LSU football few favors in clearing players to be eligible in recent years, so why would it be any different for basketball?

Are we collectively calling bullshite on Mickey's statement that he hasn't decided yet on whether or not he's leaving?

This is why it's so difficult to be anything more than a casual college basketball fan. It's hard to support players when they only use the system as a springboard to the NBA. There's no reason to even learn their names anymore. You might as well just refer to them by their jersey number.

I find myself pulling for the mid majors because they have seniors on their teams and know fundamental basketball.

I will say the same thing for next year that I said for this year. The team will go as far as Josh Gray goes.
And you will be wrong. Again.
Gray won't start, yet the team will go as he goes? Laughable.

My line-up if M&m boys are both gone:
Quarterman, Hornsby, Blakeney, Simmons, & Victor-when eligible. Patterson off the bench to shoot, and Gray in for small doses. I never understood how he averaged 35 a game in JC--cant shoot a lick. If newman signs, a great addition to guard position. Epps can play--just needs a chance, don't know what is wrong with Robinson, and malone needs to be the 14th man on the bench--seems like a great kid, but can't play at this level. TQ is one of the most improved players from year to year that I have seen.

Elbert and Epps will be the key to the season.

fight through another year of growing pains?
There are no more "growing pains". Jones will have a mix of great young talent and proven veteran talent. You'll be hard pressed to find a better roster in the SEC (though UF, UK and A&M should have good groups)
I'm not expecting a Final Four appearance, but there is absolutely no reason (barring injury of course) that next year's team should be sweating out games in late Feb/early March just to get into the tournament. To Jones' credit he's got the horses now. Do something with them!

Exactly!!!
The team improved when Gray's role was diminished. TQ as the primary ballhandler and Patterson in the starting line up were much better options. Quarteman is a better overall PG and both are better shooters than Gray.
He still has a role on next year's team and very well could be a difference maker. However, until he figures out that his role as PG is to facilitate the offense rather than try to create EVERYTHING on his own, Quarterman is the much better option.
This team goes as far as Simmons can take them. He is the star. The good news is that he should have a lot of good individual pieces around him to help carry the load

I think it is very realistic that we get Newman. We seem to be the leader for him

Newman
Blakeney
Hornsby
Simmons
Elbert (Victor once he's eligible)
Quarterman as the 6th man, but playing more minutes than the other 3.
I see Patterson taking a step back next year. As well as he played at the end of the season, he'll get lost in the mix next year And minutes will dip.
Malone still getting too many minutes.
Gray in for spurts, especially when were in a scoring drought.
Epps playing more 4.
