With both M&M's likely leaving, how do we look next year?

Now with Martin gone and Mickey likely to follow, what are the chances we make a deeper run next year? Even with the no. 1 player in the country and a stud guard coming in in Blakeney, do we solve the depth issue or fight through another year of growing pains?

Edit: (Blakeney not a transfer).

Hmmm wishful thinking

Newman
Blakeney
Hornsby
Simmons
Victor

Bench
TQ, Patterson, Gray, Robinson, Epps, Bridge, Malone

Realistically

TQ
Blakeney
Hornsby
Simmons
Robinson

, Victor, Patterson, Gray, Epps, Bridge, Malone

Some would say Victor starting, but he's about 6'9 240 we need a dominating post presence. If Elbert can get quicker and stronger look for him to start . TQ , Patterson, Victor, and Gray will give us a solid bench

I'm assuming you mean Craig Victor, he's a 6'9 F.

If Mickey follows Martin unfortunately I don't see us making a deep run in the tourney unless we get more out of the freshmen coming in than I expect. We will still have practically no depth in the front court which means Simmons and possibly Victor will have to play 35 minutes a game assuming we still cant get quality minutes out of Malone or Robinson III. I really hope one of them 2 step up, and Epps.

I like LSU's roster next year. Would love for one extra big man but we should have a solid squad.

Obviously we still haven't heard if we get Malik Newman, but we should have a nice roster that is unforutnately not very deep in the post.

We don't have a stud guard transfer, we have a stud PF transfer...

We have the #1PF/SF coming in and the #5 SG. Malik Newman is the #1 SG and he is very high on LSU also.

Looks like:

Quarterman
Blakeney
Hornsby
Simmons
Victor

would be the starting lineup.

We would have Patterson and Gray coming off the bench for the 1/2/3 spots (Newman may start moving hornsby to bench if signs) and down low will be another project.

Hopefully we can get some production from Elbert, Bridgewater, Epps, or Darcy.

Epps has so much defensive potential and plus a smooth jumper. Will shock alot of people next year not to mention he can jump out the gym. Never had a chance to really show it.

I agree that Epps shows a lot of potential but I am worried he will get buried behind the big time guards if he continues to try and play the 3 spot. At least next year.

This roster is worrisome because after next year, it will be barren. Like a skeleton roster. If we want to make noise in the NCAAT, it has to be next year.

I will say the same thing for next year that I said for this year. The team will go as far as Josh Gray goes.

This is why it's so difficult to be anything more than a casual college basketball fan. It's hard to support players when they only use the system as a springboard to the NBA. There's no reason to even learn their names anymore. You might as well just refer to them by their jersey number.

It's funny how our football QB needs three seasons to learn how to throw a pass but we'll go through several recruiting cycles and early departures in less than two years in basketball.

Thank GOD we have quality college baseball!

I do think that phrase was more pertinent to the 2014-2015 team than next years, but I think Gray will play a significant role for the team. Everytime you add a good jump shooter or another great inside presence, a PG becomes even more important. LSU will have some guys who can flat out score next year. We need someone to get them the ball.

At this point I like Newman or Quarterman in those roles. However, there will be a time for Gray, especially if he can improve his shot. He became much more under control later in the year.

How deep we go will depend on Elbert figuring things out. We will have a very good backcourt, with or without Newman. Not sure why everyone is passing over Quarterman like he is just a roster filler. He has a ton of potential if he keeps improving like he has been. Simmons of course will have to live up to the hype and play serious minutes. Victor will have to come in ready as he will also be relied heavily upon. We can play most of our games with Simmons and Victor down low. Against the teams with solid post players, we are going to need a big that can bang down low with them. Malone is good for a few fouls, but is very limited. Elbert will be able to focus more on his game than his diet this offseason. He should be able to make a decent leap before next season starts.

Well Newman isn't just "wishful" thinking, many think we lead.

Also, why would Victor start if Malik comes, but Elbert start if he doesn't?

Another name to look out for in low-post depth is Ray Kasongo. There's info and video of him in the stickied basketball recruiting thread.

Also, wait another month or so and there will be a lot more graduate transfers as well that LSU could go after

I think he is saying it's wishful thinking that Victor could be available at the beginning of the season. Probably better chance he has to wait till spring semester to play.
