Re the resignation of the ATF director.

The news articles all say that his packing it in is directly due to the M855 proposed ban but the articles are all ambiguous about why this is the case.
I've read several MSM articles and for the life of me I can't figure out if he is out because the ban was annihilated in a high profile fashion and he failed to ban the ammo or because he tried a ban that was going to blow up in the face of the ATF.

resignation of government officials is almost always due to straight up politics...someone or some group found something that he did unpopular enough that it was going to cost some votes or some campaingn contributions...

Some people just get sick of working in the government. Guy got a better opportunity in the private sector and said frick it. Happens all the time.
