I have come to the realization that my life is in shambles

There was a time not too long ago where I was happy professionally, personally, spiritually and everything was peachy. As of late, I have allowed drugs, alcohol, self destructive behavior and poor decision making to compromise my integrity, dignity and self respect. I have no friends to confide in anymore bc they are all tired of my perpetual pity party BS and refusal to man up and grow up. Which is why I'm here hoping yall can come off the bench and lend some encouragement and maybe even give me a chance at an employment opportunity? I have many skills and intangibles that cannot be taught and I'm an ace at effective communication and math. This is my Hail Mary pass before I just say frick it and throw the few personal effects I still have to my name into my 2000 Honda CRV and just drive to a town out west where nobody knows my name and start over with a clean slate.

Go check into a mental health facility if you're serious. You're not going to get much help here.

Do I have to have insurance for that? If not, I doubt I can afford it

Idk man I feel like I'm in you're same boat. 25 and still working towards a career

What kind of field of employment are you seeking?

If you're serious, all you can do is fight through it. It sucks and it feels like the hardest thing in the world to overcome but you can do it. Everyone has been there whether they will admit to it or not. The best advice I can give you is to find an awesome new hobby, that will get your mind off of everything and it will give you something to be proud of and something that will give you a feeling of accomplishment. Truth be told you can't find happiness in other people if you aren't happy on your own. I know the drugs and booze are a hell of a lot of fun and an easy way to get your mind off of things but it is only a temporary solution. You need to find yourself and find something that truly makes you happy. I wish you the best of luck man, you've got this.

At this point, I am wide open. My degree is business management but I have experience in and know I can produce in a variety of fields. I would say sales is my biggest strength.

You don't realize it, but your are already on your journey back. You'll be a more wise and thankful person because of it.
On your journey back, you must forget about the things that are beyond your control (and trust me, MOST THINGS in this world are beyond your control), and focus on the few things you can control. Every so often, go for a walk around a pond and feed the ducks, help at a charity, write poems, the key is TO ACT.
Every single person who has gone through tough times experiences the same hard lesson: words are the most overrated things in the history of all things. Words don't do anything. Words don't compel action. They are, as William Faulkner put it, "just shapes to fill a lack."
Do not let words dominate your life. You must do things.
Also, and this is from my own personal times of trouble, you must accept that any past happiness is locked away from you forever. You must look forward, because if you spend your life lamenting about "the good ole days", you will totally destroy a golden opportunity to create new days of joy.
My two points of advice, then, are these:
1) Recognize that words are completely and utterly useless and overrated.
2) Accept that you cannot conquer time in order to bring back the treasure of past euphoria and happiness. Those days are locked forever in memory of golden haze. Instead, look forward and create and make and DO. That is the key word: DO.

Some insurances do help with the costs, but in all honesty - if drugs and alcohol are affecting your life in this severity then you need to seek help. Counseling, AA, whatever. Call the Capital Area United Way. They can steer you in a right direction.

This gets my vote.
If you're truly at rock bottom, it might be the best thing for you. Get away from everything and start form scratch. Good luck.

Sorry dude. Been there myself. I'm still looking for a job after I got laid off around the holidays.
The fact you're aware of your recent behavior, and don't like it, is a good thing. Try to change that first and see if your friends or family come back around. If they see you trying, they'll probably be willing to rally on your behalf.

I'm just trying to help another guy out, truthfully we're all in this together. The fact that you're willing to accept it and that you can talk about it is a step in the right direction. If there is anything that being down in the dumps has taught me is that once you are willing to admit there is an issue, you are already past the halfway point to getting better. It took me a few years to get to that point but here I am now and looking back I realize that all of the pain I caused myself and my loved ones wasn't worth it at all. Take this rough patch and use it fire you, use it to make you a better person. Don't let it define you like so many people do. You're friends and family are rooting for you, even if you haven't spoken to them about it yet they know what is going on. It's time to prove to yourself that you can do this, you can win this war. Believe me, there is no better feeling than coming out on the otherside of this knowing that you used it to make you a better person instead of letting it destroy you.

Do you have a priest you can talk to about this? If you have a substance abuse problem it must be properly addressed. Trying to bury it under the excitement of a new and promising career will only lead to it's resurfacing at yet another inopportune time. You're a young man-get a hold of this thing and put it behind you. You have a long life ahead of you.

I'm taking the high road here.

You sound like a total pussy right now. Life is not easy son. Man up. I wouldn't hire you with that bullshite sorry arse story. I don't believe you for one second. If it is true, you are overlooking all of the fun things in life. Booze, drugs, and cheap women are the things that normal and successful people enjoy. Maybe you're not ready. Get your shite together.
