forgot about that, got to more to it, there are a couple of sizable "homeless" communities there, and of course there's a lot of drug activity there as well, could have been in the wrong place wrong time doing something wasn't supposed to be doing

I doubt it. Knew of this man. He was a hard core family man and very open Christian. Did not have much money with a huge family, and was trying to get into nursing, if I recall the story. I think one issue was that he didn't have money for living expenses, and was living in some type of shelter. Not sure on all those details, but I know there was no even suspecting of this guy doing drugs, or being involved in anything seedy.

I see, of course there are bound to be exceptions in any place, maybe he was infringing on some homeless dudes turf, but overall there's not much violent crime in Maui, or if there is they keep it pretty quiet, used to go there 4-5 times a month for work for a few years, even in Honolulu where violent crime is more likely to occur, the police station on Waikiki beach is only open M-F from 8am-5pm

I bet more tourists have have died there by falling and hitting their heads. Would you suggest everyone traveling there wear helmets as well?

Probably witnessed something or was trying to help somebody that had problems bigger than what he was aware of.
