Y'all fish out of a Bertram or Hatteras or something?

Is it mainly blue, black, and white marlin there?

I got a Penn 50tw NIB a few years back for less than $400. Granted, it looks like they don't even make the single speeds anymore. It's been a while since I got to fish offshore regularly. I would get the Tiagra if the prices were similar. For everything up to chasing really big Marlin, I think you can get away with 30's. I'd be super comfortable with 50's. I never really been on trips where 80's and up were needed.

We got spooled last July while fishing Ursa. We were pinned near the drill ship and couldn't back down on the fish. Whatever it was spooled us in less than 5 minutes....

I'm not sure about the 30w but yeah the 50 wides handle their own.

Good god, it dumped an 80w? Could have been a bluefin.

Even when were fishing in cabo the biggest we've used is 80 wides. Only time I've put my hands on a 130 is when we were fishing off the cape in Mass for bluefin.

What kind of boat do you run?

A little late in the year for a bluefin, but not impossible.

A dolphin will spool you with a quickness...
