Why not a Fiesta ST? Any car will last 10 years. shite, my Jeep is kickin it at 18 years.
All of the above are too small for me, but if driving a tiny boring car may as well get one that's fun.

Ford Focus. Bought mine in 2013. Love it.

I'm a big guy and have no problems driving a fit when I have to. Get them as rentals all the time.

I saw an ad for the Chevy Cruze with most basic stuff for less than $14K...I don't own one, but have rented one and liked it. And it's larger than the two cars you are looking at...

If I were the OP I'd give a serious look at the Jetta TDI. Fun to drive diesel with about the same MPG as the fit. The interior is incredibly roomy for the size of the car and it's got a large trunk.
And, it's a VW, so it'll be a lot more fun to drive. I just traded in my SEL for an SUV, but I loved it. Put 47k on it in 2 years and didn't have any issues. If I could go back I would have gone with the TDI though. Much better MPGs and more tourque. Just don't ever hit a pothole in sport mode.
And on a similar note, my cousin and her husband drove their Passat TDI from Columbus, OH to Myrtle Beach, SC on a single tank. I was slightly envious

My wife has owned an older Focus and now has a 2008 Fit. The Fit is awesome. I was not around for the Focus days but she liked it. Not nearly as much as the Fit though.

Pretty much every review I have read says the Fit's biggest strength is how spacious it is especially for a subcompact.
This is true. We use the wife's Fit for travel and you can really configure the car to meet your needs. We usually have a bunch of gear and a dog comfortably.

I bought a 2015 civic. The fit drives pretty well. Just didn't like the exterior design.
I originally wanted a vw golf tdi but there are two recalls on the golf and the salesman was an a-hole to me and lucky I didn't beat the tar out of him

Wouldn't buy an American made economy car. American companies never cared about their economy cars when I was willing to buy them. I started buying Japanese cars in 1983 and haven't bought anything else since.
I love people using 30 year old anecdotal evidence to support claims about products made now.

They make an ST Focus that is faster and has more space than the Fiesta. I almost bought one about a year ago.

I bought a fusion last year because I'm driving so much. FWIW if I would do it again I would go Toyota over them all.

You can't just do this like that.

Not sure how big of a person you are, but that Honda fit is small. I test drove one few years ago and I'm 6'1" and there was no way that would work. Civic is much better, and honestly just as good MPG. I've driven the Focus as well as a work car and those are nice; just not quite as tightly put together as the Honda. IMO....
