You invite 400 people?

You expect your guests to go to a one hour church service prior to going to your crib?

You expect people to bring a nice gift?

Etc, etc, etc. If so, you might wanna pick up their drinks.

I actually think the money dance is worse than having a cash bar in terms of the trashy scale though.

Are there people who don't think the money dance is trashier than a cash bar?

I see cash bars a LOT at the weddings up here in YankeeLand. Never been a fan.

no its not a 400 people gathering...its more like 35-45 each year including kids.

No we don't go to church before hand but I do say a blessing and brief devotional and we play christian rock/rap music exclusively.

My wedding didn't have a cash bar but we had a money dance

I've probably been to 25 weddings and Id say that at least 23 of them had money dances

I've never seen it judged as harshly as it has been judged on the OT

its a good time. the devotionals are well received after the guests have ponied up for a few stiff drinks. we donate 10% to charity.

I had no idea what a "money dance" was before TD.

You have a lot of trashy friends/family and it seems like you fit right in.

Both are trashy. At least with the money dance, though, you can make an argument that there's sort of a tradition behind it.

The money dance is classless. You're basically begging for money from people. If someone wants to give you money, fine. They can put it in an envelope and hand it to you inconspicuously and offer their congratulations.
To have a song at the reception and then an announcement is made and people come up and put money in a bag or pinned to your outfit is incredibly trashy.
