I still think he overpays players and has drafted poorly...which is why he's had to overpay players

I'm hoping Jeff Ireland has similar success identifying OL and Defensive talent as he did in Miami. His only drawback in Miami had been QB and RB positions and we seem to have both of those covered.

need I go on?

Look at the costs. We have lost our biggest receiving weapon. We lost perhaps the youngest and best deep receiving option. We traded our guard. We cut the captain of our defense. We cut a vastly underutilized multi-faceted runningback.

A lot of these moves counteract the good.

+1, Hope Jeff Ireland helps in that regard.

and with the 1st pick of the draft the tampa bay bucaneers trade with the New Orleans Saints for 10 draft picks. The New Orleans Saints have selected....Jameis Winston Florida State.
This is my nightmare hahaha

hat did not work and now they are re-tooling

Yea, it was a must. But at what expense.

Outside of Cam jordan, Gtaham and Still have been our 2 best draft picks of the last 5 years. In Still's case, a GREAT contract and a versatile WR. In Jimmy's case, the best playermaker in our history. 150 catches and 1800 yards gone from last year.

So let's slow down and see what we can do with these picks, and who we will add in FA at WR. If its anything like the past, all these picks for Loomis is like giving a monkey a loaded gun.

Just don't get it lost what the expense is of this re-tooling. We're robbing Peter to pay Paul

that Brees would lock on then look for the next option

Over paid and can't cover

As far as Pierre Thomas --> see Spiller

And we picked up Browner and Unger. I say our gains far outweigh our losses, and that's not even considering the draft picks we are gathering.

Exactly. Also I wouldn't necessarily say these moves have been good. Saints are rebuilding and re tooling with a 36 year old QB

Again with this shite? Look, with a renewed and upgraded oline we can possibly squeeze another 4 years out of Drew. Draft someone in 2017 to sit and learn behind him. I would rather have an established team to work a new QB into later than have to rebuild AND have a new quarterback at the same time.

I think Payton realized the drafting needed help, hence the scouting department help. Let's hope it pays dividends, it's all you can do. It looks like Sean has finally admitted they need a competent running game, so that is cause for optimism.

Also, if we were to go after draft picks as a way to upgrade, i would recommend we trade our WR/TEs and draft new ones, since we have had the highest success in developing those positions.

Sounds like good strategy at least. let's hope it works.

It's crazy how some people really think this.

Brees locked on to Graham because he is the only guy he felt was reliable. Other guys were getting old. Stills was the next bext option, now he is gone. You act like we can build a new WR corps over night and everything will be back to old. It's going to be a tough task.

our WR corps has evolved over time, 09' team it took 3 years to build up to that. Then we slowly added pieces like Graham and Stills to get where we have been the last few years.. We really haven't ever had a large turnover there. Now it's basically Cooks(10ypc) and Colston(done). There will be a large turnover this year and its unknown how we will respond.

is this really a rebuilding?

Graham, stills, lofton and grubbs are gone...oh the horror.

We're better in the secondary, we're better on the o-line pending what happens at LG, we're better in the backfield.

our receiving options are down...cooks could be huge this year and colston is not above a resurgence with graham gone

I think the part you're missing is that we HAD to make some moves to get under the cap.

So while we obviously lost some valuable guys, we are doing a great job of also adding valueable guys as well as draft picks in the process.

I'm stuck between "what the hell are they doing", and "they getting good value for these guys". The one thing I don't like is labeling someone like Stills a bad locker room guy, or bad work ethic guy, just because he got traded. That's unfair. That's like LSU coaches throwing Brandon Harris under the bus and basically telling everyone he is dumb, because he looked bad in a system known to make qb's look bad.

I'm convinced they are trading up for either Beasley, or one of the wr's.

I think so.

Will be a new LB'er corp.
A new WR corp.
And as it looks now a new O-line.
In camp we could find a new kicker. A new #1 TE might be in the mix.

Thats a lot.

Getting rid of the Stills contract for Ellerbe's contract fits this how exactly?

colston and cooks were here last year. so I don't know about "new"

It's just a switch to a different offense. We're going to run the ball more. If the protection is there Drew will kill it.

jamal jones, terrance copper, anyone remember these guys? Yeah, they played really well when drew was upright and the running game was clicking

I think we've vastly upgraded, but the aggressiveness with which we've achieved that fools people into thinking it's a tear down and rebuild

we also HAD to make moves to get better

this team was like 9 points away from an 11 win season, but the bottom line is they just didn't have a lot of talent

our backfield goes from a problem/enigma to one of the best stables in the league, our interior line lost a shitty LG and gained a big time center, and our TE who is a freak catching passes, but can't block is gone...We're going to pound the rock and keep drew upright. We're going to finally have a great PA game, our secondary is going to finally be a physical force

the saints are so much better than they were to start the offseason and we have 3 more picks in the draft.

Loomis hasn't done $hit since like 11 am. What's he waiting for?
