OT World Travelers...3 days in Florence..

I posted on this board earlier in the week asking for suggestions as to what to do in Rome for a long weekend. The feedback was absolutely amazing and I'm really grateful.
My 2 friends and I are planning a trip throughout Italy and parts of Germany during June. I'd love to get some feedback on things to do in Florence, given that this city is the one I know least about. We're scheduled to stay there for no more than 3 nights.
Any suggestions?!

You really don't need plans in Florence, it is such a small city with so much to do that you could literally just walk around for 3 days and not run out of sights to see and places to eat.
I am recommending that on your way to Germany from Italy that you stop and stay at least 1 night in Innsbruck Austria (It's about galway between Venice and Munich). I lived in Innsbruck for a semester of college and it is an amazing little city.

There are some cool bars there and awesome art museums. The original David statue is located there as well. I went in the summertime and some museums had huge waiting list. I would reserve a spot ahead of time.

We stopped in Interlaken for a few days going between Germany and Italy and it was awesome. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

I forget the name of it but there is a big palace filled with art.
don't go there. it's terrible.
wandering around the city was the most fun for me. of course the duomo and statue of david but you need tickets ahead of time.

One of my friends was interested in a cooking class. Had hopes of bringing back an authentic recipe back home with him. Anybody have any suggestions?

Best thing we did on our trip was rent a car and drive to Forte Dei Marmi, it was by far the best beach I have ever been to. Also I would suggest doing the Tuscany Vespa tour, you ride around the country side drinking at different vineyards. LINK

we were planning for just two days in Florence, I think 5 in rome and then 1 in naples(pompei), 1 in positano and 1 in venice

Take a vineyard tour of Chianti and Chianti Classico. We also took a trip to Panzano and ate at Antica Macelleria Cecchini, which was really good. The chef there is famous in Europe, known as the crazy butcher. He recites Dante's Inferno while butchering

We stayed south of the city at Torre Di Bellosguardo, but that may not be something for a group of friends to do. We loved it, though. It was originally the summer house of the Medici family (built in the 16th century), and has gardens and a pool on the property. It also holds claim to the best view of the city.

Too many things to do given the short time we're there!
A trip to Pompeii by way of Rome is definitely in the works. I'm really excited about that. Does anyone have any suggestions on places to Cliff Jump/Dive in Italy near Rome or Florence? Need to cross that off my bucket list!

the SO and I are going on our honeymoon to tuscany. i was looking into the vespa tour. had you ever ride a vespa before? neither of us have driven one and wondering how easy/difficult they are to handle on the roads there.

Florence is a great city to just get lost in and still have a good time. There's an overlook on the outskirts of the city that gives you a great view of the landscape. There are guided tours but I'd recommend just doing it yourself. The evening would be the best time to do it. Make sure you eat a good steak and drink some lemoncello in any bar you seem interested in hanging out in. As an American, you'll appreciate how many places serve nice cuts of meat (unlike most parts of Italy). I enjoyed sitting in the squares and having a drink between 8-10 before dinner/nightlife began. Lots of good people watching. During dinner sit outside, pay a musician some cash to play music near you, you don't have to drop a lot of cash. Guaranteed good time. Have fun!

Florence is probably the most beautiful and most fun city in Europe if not the world. I have been there twice and have always left feeling like I got nowhere near enough time there.
