Don't listen to people telling you to not plant it....they only know of the ones that spread via underground runners.
Use Alphonso Karr bamboo. It is a clumping variety and will from a tall screen within 2 years. Hollies and other large shrubs are great too but they will take longer to format a solid barrier.
This bamboo is excellent in Louisiana.
Oh and you can get it in pretty big sizes for not too much money.

Bamboo brings up such bad memories for me. I bought a house with a forest of bamboo for a backyard and that shite took like a year to finally clear. It pops up everywhere! And it keeps coming. If you plant it, best of luck to you.

They have "clumping" varieties that sent nearly as invasive.
