Why do people say the basketball team has a lot of talent on it?

In reality we have 4 good players 1 OK player and the rest are hot garbage. In the SEC we are a middle of a pack team when it comes to overall talent. For what he had to work with I think Johnny has done a good job. Now what he has to do is tell Mickey and Martin that they are not NBA ready and come back next year and play on a team that will actually have elite talent.

Actually talent wise we are probably third

I agree somewhat but Mickey and Martin are better than just good they are pretty damn close to elite players on the college level. Do they need to develop more? Yes.... But they are as good as it gets, no college player is perfect and all have weak points. Other than those two we are average at the moment. We are still a young team though and I agree Johnny is doing a pretty good job with what we have. The problem most fans have is the intensity these guys lack in games, they are better than losing to MS, Missou, Aub, and Tenn and that's that. They didn't play the way they are capable and that's just not acceptable, they should bring 100% every game and they don't do that. Are they worn from all the minutes? Probably but man lots of teams have the same depth we do or worse and they play hard? It's not the losing its how and who and when they lose. I don't put it on JJ, he can only do so much and then the players have to play. I agree they should come back to work on those weakneses and try to bring LSU a championship next year! We would have a very good team with depth and depending on how Epps, Robinson and the transfer develop or fit into next years team we could very well be one of the best in the country. I know this, if they come back it would be a helleva year and lots more fun for them. If Robonson would develop into a good center this team could be scary good next year!!! They will be good anyway but with these two WOW! GT

We are in the upper third if you go and look at recruiting rankings.
UK and UF are (by recruiting) in a class of their own.
We are right with Mizzou, Arkansas, Bama, TAMU (yes tamu has as many 5 stars as we do and probably as many four stars)
UGA has a 5 star too-Kentavius caldwell pope.
Its just crazy how we got 1 5 star and one high four-Mickey and people expected final 4 runs.
To that end though. This does not excuse losing to a combined Mizzou auburn state Tenn and TAMU twice
Win one or two of those and people feel much better about the season

I do agree with you. We got Martin, who most believed was going to be a lot better than he was last year. He just started off getting hit with the injury bug. Then Mickey had his coming out party by becoming the second player with 100 blocks in a season other than Shaq. So just having those two with an Anthony Hickey and Stringer fans thought we were supposed to be better. Fast forward to this year. It was thought that after a whole season and an offseason that M and M would take us straight to the promise land. With the help of Hornsby and the leading JUCO scorer last year. But NCAA is on a different level than JUCO and takes some adjusting. IN reality we should be about where we are right now or maybe a game or two better.

SECNetwork reporting Mickey in a sling at practice. Said he was injured early in the Tennessee game, which explains a lot. Said he is questionable against the piggies.

Why? Because we do have a lot of talent. Enough so we should be a shoe-in for the NCAA tournament and not a bubble team.
I will just say this. I sign of poor coaching is erratic performance in who you beat and lose to. Losing to the worst teams and beating the best teams means to me that you have the talent but not the coaching.

It's coaching. Just look at Tennessee; they have smaller players. Although talented; they beat LSU big. Their coach had them ready to play the other night. JJ did not have his team ready. JJ should have his team ready to play every game.

While I don't necessarily disagree, we also went to Tennessee's house and completely dismantled them.

No doubt, but they also hitting a ridiculous amount of shots in the 2nd half.
Quarterman looked slow and he was cold as ice missing wide open 3's. Hopefully that was due to his ankle.

because everyone believed the hype when this team was playing cupcakes at the beginning of the season

We won @ WVU. Or they watched LSU play with UK for 40 minutes and have a shot to win it at the end.
And this team obviously has talent compared to other SEC teams. Martin is a 1st rounder IMO. Mickey would probably go in the 2nd. Quarterman is 6'6 with a pretty good handle.
We may lack depth, but our problem is that we've been losing to the least talented teams in conference and outplaying the more talented ones.

Don't know much about basketball other than March Madness is "the big" college basketball tournament every year. And frat boys to middle aged guys from coast to coast talk about their brackets. To each their own.
What I do know is that LSU has one of, if not "the best" basketball training facility in the Nation, Period, and has for some time now. So the lack of facility folks can all pile in a van and drive to Bama and have cake with Saban. The PMAC is as good of a venue as it needs to be with plenty of National sports coverage. All the hot air about why we can't compete with Florida or UK every year is getting old and worn out. Nothing but the same lame excuses.

For me it's relative. We've got more than we're showing and we've probably got the 3rd or 4th best in the conference at worst and IMHO more than enough to make the field of 68.
And my concern is that we aren't going to live up to any of that in on court performance.....again!

Because we're LSU, so our players must be great and the coach sucks.

Absolutely no excuse to have as many horrible losses as we've had this year. Tennessee may be the worst of all considering what was on the line, how we beat Tenn. just a few weeks ago and the mystifying lack of effort/intensity we displayed.
Do we have "elite" talent with the likes of UK, Duke, etc.? Hell no. But do we have sufficient talent to where we shouldn't be scratching and clawing for a chance to sneak in the tourney right now? Hell no.

This. I hate this mindset. But it is 100% true about how LSU fans think.
