Just caught it on Encore. IMO, its the best Bond movie. Connery at his peak with a good but not too complicated plot. Would be great to see Craig have a straight forward movie like this instead of yet another movie diving into Bond's childhood and inner demons.
Oh...there's also this:

Thunderball is cool.

My top 5:
1) Live and Let Die
2) Goldfinger
3) Goldeneye
4) Octopussy
5) The Spy Who Loved Me
As you can probably gather from my list, Roger Moore was my favorite Bond.

Before I throw my computer into the street, I'd like to know why. Personally, a 55 year old James Bond doesn't appeal to me.

b/c he's old
also, b/c I'm not the biggest fan of how cheesy the Moore movies got so its nice to have a Bond from that time period that is a little more serious.
I cant really come up with a good reason why I like it more than Thunderball. They are essentially the exact same movie since they are based off the same book.
I'd probably have to watch them back to back and get back to you.

Not a huge Timothy Dalton fan but this was almost in my top 5. It's a great movie.

Moore did get cheesy at times. He was the most light hearted James Bond in the series but I love Live and Let Die mainly because it does get dark at times (no pun intended). Octopussy was pretty damn cheesy but I like it

Love that movie but I need to put a 'purer' Bond classic on top if that makes sense.
I think From Russia With Love is as good as it gets.

Casino Royale was easily the best bond movie ever but Thunderball is in my top-5 for sure as well.

Live and Let Die was great. Moore was still relatively youngish-looking and Jane Seymour was beautiful. Kinda went downhill from there, though Moonraker is a guilty pleasure - c'mob, you can't go wrong with crazy blondes, James fighting off a snake, a giant space lab, Jaws, and doing it in zero gravity!
In terms of my best, while there are many better ones in the series that I would rank above it, the one I kinda have love watching is Tomorrow Never Dies - it's just fun.
All the Bonds are so different. Someone should start a thread ranking the films by Bond performance.

quote:I definitely understand. I love it because it was Bond in a quintessentially '80s movie and I love '80s movies. The scarface-type villain, young Benicio del Toro and Wayne Newton as bad guys. Tropical setting. It was just spectacular.
Love that movie but I need to put a 'purer' Bond classic on top if that makes sense.
While I'm not a big Dalton fan his version of Bond was a purer take in a sense that he played him as darker and more brooding and truer to the character in the books, which was a welcome change from the super-campy approach Moore took (although I appreciated Moore as Bond too). License to Kill was really dark when you compare it to the decade that preceded it. His friends are both killed in the beginning, the wife is raped before getting killed. Bond quits the secret service and goes rogue. It's just awesome.
