We also need LB's who can stop the run. How many of those do we have? 1, let's trade him!!!
If he is unwilling to rework his contract, I can understand, but we are attempting to trade the only above average LB we have.

Zero.

He sucks in pass coverage but he is tackling machine.
What would Yall think about bringing in Rey Maualuga?

look I like Lofton OK but for over 6 million? F@ck that. He's a good run stuffer but if we had a better NT he wouldn't have to lead the team in tackles every year. He has no speed and zero cover skills.

they're going to save a buck here and there so loomis can pull off signing the best free agent yet again

Everyone wants to blame the talent, but no one wants to blame Vitt. The Saints have had good linebacker play in what, one or two seasons since he's been here? The fact is that with Vitt at LBer coach, this team will struggle at that position.
Without Vilma it fell apart, and much like others, a guy plays lights out other places, comes to the Saints at LBer, and is mediocre to bad. That isn't a coincidence.

Yeah goat that was kinda my point.
It isn't that I wanted to keep him. It's that I thought Payton and Ryan liked him too much to let him go. And how Payton kept going on a no leadership.
All other aspects think makes perfect sense, as would releasing Evans. It's time to move on but it's hard for me to trust them to do it.
They surprised the frick out of me releasing Harper and Moore last year(the others made sense) and trading Sproles. All things that had to be done but I didn't see them doing it(still think Harper and Smith are the ones we missed most from a leadership standpoint and Harper still had a role).

Vitt can take McMahon with him

Type of guy we need in the middle .

It just amazes me how the guy coaches the position that is consistently the worst on the team his entire tenure here with maybe 1 year as an exception, yet has untouchable status.

Hawthorne outplayed Lofton last year, and both Haralson and Humber are good run stoppers.
Problems is ALL of our LBs are good run stopper that can't cover worth a damn. We need to get rid of all but two of them(Haralson and Humber would be my keepers; cheap and capable).

If he could keep his foot to the pedal he could make Hicks a damn star.

More cap room plus the draft is deep at LB this year. Defense needs to get quicker especially the LBS.

Not giving him talent to work with is a giant part of that problem.

Besides Vilma and Lofton what LB played lights out other places that the Saints acquired? We barely get guys who were lights out in college.

Not to say he isn't the problem or at least part of it, but I think we may have only drafted one LB in the 3rd round and none in the first two since he's been here.
That is definitely part of the problem. It's time we quit trying to plug the hole with mid level free agents (outside Vilma) and actually draft some round one and two LBs. Or sign a FA stud.

We had one with promise but Ingram killed him.

Lofton never played lights out with us or Atlanta. He's always been a tackling machine in the middle but that's it. Most of the fans were happy he was leaving because he sucked in coverage, until they found out we got him.

obviously I'm not serious, but people keep reminding me about byrd being signed despite a dire situation so what are they getting at?
like him or hate him, the saints signing suh should make the most casual saints fan jizz in their pants
