Lofton has been okay but he started to fall off about half way through last year it seemed like. Course, it didn't help that the interior D-line had a off year.
He was wearing a shoulder brace. Played over 3,000 defensive snaps in 3 years more than half of them he was hurt.
Signed a $54 mil deal with $28mil guaranteed with Byrd and we got 4 games before his season was over from a practice injury.
Galette is nothing but problems and didn't produce at all last year and we're on the hook for $16 mil with no way out.
We're going to pay Cory White $1.5 million for Christ sake. If they don't cut him we might as well throw in the towel.
Get your paper bag ready!

Just you.
Make sure you show up to the first home game wearing it like a boss.
You'll have a great time I'm sure. Treated like a hero from everybody.

WTF? He produced more sacks and pressures than both Hicks and Cam Jordan combined last year. I've been one of Galette's biggest critics, especially in relation to how he fits into our scheme, but I can at least see his value as a pure pass rusher.

I second that.

Our problem is the middle of the line, guys were stepping up in the pocket with no pressure, but Galette is not worth the headaches he creates for that price. I'd trade him in a heartbeat if I could get someone in the middle for that money.

I never agreed with his price tag either. As armchair GM, I thought the current contract was for too long of a duration and on the top end of the pay scale of what he should have been offered. I would have been fine with his current base annual salary if the total contract was for a shorter duration (like a 1 or 2 year deal).
That being said, he was still one of our most productive guys (at their respective roles) on defense last year. He comes with baggage, the organization should have known that prior to signing the contract. They only have themselves to blame for being stuck at this point.

His price is actually pretty damn cheap at around $8.7 million a year.
And it isn't smart to fix one hole by creating another.

Well Reys of the board....

But they set themselves up for a perfect storm this season with a massive cap number and no way to unload him when trouble popped up.

That deal is good for the Saints. We've been burnt too many times by not locking up our best players until their contract expired.
He's absolutely worth more than his average salary on the open market IMO. Even with the legal trouble, he's still one of the better value guys on the team and was our best player on defense last year (due to Keenan's injuries)

I think he's speaking more from the fact we can't outright cut him because of the way it's setup. Our options are keep him and convert his bonus (which was fully the intention before all the mess) or trade him.
So if we can't trade him we are stuck with him for another 2-3 years with him knowing we didn't want him and us not wanting him.
And that fact, all with his legal issues and possible suspension, means we likely will get poor trade value.

I really think there is less than a 1% chance of a suspension
I also disagree with the Saints trying to trade him for what you mentioned.
I'm honestly hoping another team doesn't trade for him, unless they give us a high draft pick which is unlikely

I didn't think they'd get rid of him either, but with the report of Payton wanting him gone and the news of him being on the traditional block, it seems legit.
And I just checked and if we kept him the earliest we could cut him without losing cap would be 2017. And it's not pretty then either as we would have $8.9m in dead money with only $100k in savings.

Which at the time, and IMO, still a good thing. That price tag for pass rushers is going to continue to rise.
What do you think Wilfork will demand? Would be a hell of a piece for us

My issue isn't with the price tag or wanting to keep him. I always wanted him to stay and knew we had a great deal.
My issue is now that works is out he is on the trading block, if it doesn't happen we are going to have to put hurt feelings aside for two years and I'm just not sure it could be done. This could mess up and already tenuous locker room.
Edit:
On Wilfork I don't think he gets big money at his age unless a team like Denver is trying to get over the hump and over pays. It's possible he could be in our range. I'm thinking two years for about $6m total would be his cap..
