I only stick with Garman because they are so easy to use. too many buttons on the Lowrance. I like to keep it simple and real dumb so that if I have a heart attack on board, anyone can get us in.

Lowrance does have a chip out now with all of south la. Don't reme the name of it though. Cheaper than standard maps.

correct, standard mapping will have one as well for 350 or so.
the new card is by legend cartography, its the louisiana unleashed card. for 200 $ its a great value.
i make my own maps using two programs. its very nice. and as far as cards go they are over priced but lowrance is the only gps system i feel with good high res areal pictute. perfect for the marsh.
also i have the Elite 7 hdi unit which takes google or raster imagery. all lowrance hds units do as well, only ones that do not are the elite 5 dsi.

I don't think the Elite 5 supports satellite imagery. I bought the Navionics card for the Elite 5 and didn't see a real difference. Maybe in the depth readouts on the GPS but that's it. Still driving over water when the GPS shows land.

Which unit do you have the hdi or dsi? If hdi u wasted money on navioncs, the legend cartography card will work on elite hdi units. Or any other imagery card.

I think you have to buy the platinum chip for satellite.
Posted on 3/4/15 at 10:48 am to sloopy
you can buy that if want but only for hds lowrance units And humminbird And it's 400 bucks. There are cheaper cards available for satellite imagery for lowrance

We just upgraded to an HDS-9 last season and the size paired with the crystal clear images is awesome (especially for a trout only rig )

i wish, i woudlnt have room on top of the xpress console for it lol. i cant complain i got the elite 7 hdi for 450$ and i made my satelite maps for it for free.

It's over the top that's for sure. We don't really use it to its full potential, just wanted something to replace the potato uhhh... Garmin that was on the dash before

ETA: What is the best Lowrance for under $600 that supports satellite imagery?

all you have to do is download garmin's "base camp" software, select the satellite imagery you want, and download on to your device
plus its free

I need the details of how to do this. I am pretty fluent in all things GIS, Google Earth, digital mapping related and didn't know about this.

the elite 7 hdi is 450$ which is what i have and the elite 5 and 7 chirp series can be found for 500 to 700 for 7 inch screen. best bang for ya buck, or you can get a hds 5 or 7 for about 600 or so a 7 being about 800

platinum plus for our area is 400 i believe if i buy a card its going to be the legend unleashed card. standard mapping is coming out with one of all the maps they have combined for around 350 to 400 $ i hear

If you update your charts, does it wipe out your history ?
Past tracks, etc.
Yea , I love my Garmin
