Yeah, the only thing I can imagine that would be worse is if you completely whiffed on ball hit so slowly that it didn't even travel to the outfielder so the batter got to second base. No error, though, clean double.

So are all good coaches.

Are you Bryan Lazare by any chance?

Most athletes at that level have learned to respect honest, constructive criticism and I see nothing wrong with Paul's approach. The better players are already approaching their games from a business-like approach, hoping as many do, that they'll leave LSU to try professional baseball.

I appreciate his bluntness. Kids these days get everything sugar coated and we all see how that turns out. These kids have scholarships and he is cut and dry about his expectations.

calling it like it is hardly qualifies as "throwing a player under the bus"
as long as he has an "open door" policy where the player can discuss these issues with him i'm very OK with his bluntness. this way the player won't be surprised with what he says.
every person has weaknesses and some cannot overcome them. there's no shame in that; in fact, it's much better to face them so a strategy to live with them can be adopted.

I wonder if he thinks all of his players can take the criticism...

Bertman was way worse and if you don't believe it go ask former players, if you were in his doghouse you did not play. Bertman didn't reveal as much to the media.
PM is refreshingly honest when most coaches aren't. Anything he says to the media you can bet he has discussed with the players before he does any of it.

I agree. You'll hear Mainieri discuss more topics of question than any other coach in the nation. He doesn't have a reason to hide his cards and neither should he...

Supposedly Rick Greene

The high chopper he bobbled was a tough play the other two he should have had but he is probably just pressing. I'm sure he will be okay.

You shut your whore mouth and get on your knees and thank God for what we have been blessed with at LSU.

Most fans also don't realize how tough Miles is behind closed doors.

He's very blunt.
An argument could be made (both ways) for whether or not it is a positive or a negative for the players.
However, as a fan, I LOVE that I can get real info from the head coach.
