Will the new 2 year rule that is being proposed be in effect in time to ensure Simmons will be a tiger for at least 2 seasons?

That's not being proposed by the NCAA. It's never going to happen. If it did players like Simmons will go overseas for a year and skip college.

It's been proposed by the NBA and the commissioner. It would be a 2 year deal even if they went overseas.
Look for it to be a big NBA topic this off season

Yea, I understand that. Most would go to college though.

They're already getting paid.

I hate all this leaving early in all three sports. I would like 3 years mandatory, even 4 for me would be good. I think they ought to stay and get a degree of some kind. My dad had to pay for mine and we didn't have a LOT of money. What Kentucky does is horrible,to me. If they can get a 2 year stay,I would like it. It'll help LSU and hurt Kenntucky.

So Kentucky having all that talent for more than 1 year is not good for them?

Wrong. Not only is it being proposed, the NCAA of course wants it, and is expected to move on it very soon. My understanding is it's just a matter of time.

I wish they would do like baseball. You either go out of high school, or you don't. Once you decide to come to college you must stay for 3 years (with the exception of the age). Moving to this for basketball would be great IMO.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Hard to bring in as much talent every year if the kids have to stay longer.
They would miss on more kids that want to start right away IMO

The NCAA has zero authority in this

This is one I don't understand at all. It is amazing the NBA players don't change the rule to make them stay in college longer. Quite a few NBA players lose their jobs every year to these one and done players based on potential, not their actual performance. Every year, solid veteran players are out of the league to make room for a highly drafted rookie that often sits on the bench for years and never is the caliber of player they replaced.
As I heard this before, the NBA is the only entity that protects its future members better than their current members.

Agreed. No way to enforce....unless you punish the school if any of its players change their mind and decide to go pro early. Not unlike the Womack debacle.

I think the 1-year rule along with 3 years for NFL (or 2+ age) are unconstitutional. But when you have billions dollar revenue entities (NBA, NFL) hand shaking with other billion dollar revenue entities (NCAA), they get to make up the rules for themselves.
Even MLB's 3-year college rule if not signed out of HS is suspect.

quote:. People throw this word around a lot. What part of the Constitution is being broken? The NFL, NBA, & MLB are all private organizations made up of private companies. It's not unconstitutional for a private company to establish hiring requirements. The constitution even has age requirements written into the articles for congress and president.
