This. Besides, if a citizen has called and the officer believes that there is a reasonable concern for public safety, reasonable suspicion exists. Period.

These extreme gun nuts hurt the 2nd amendment more than they help. I'm an avid hunter, have a concealed carry permit, and often have a pistol on me. However I don't wave it around in public scaring everyone and making the general public fear people who have guns.
Same with hunters. Yes I have a right to strap a dead deer with guts hanging out on the hood of my truck, but instead I try my best to conceal deer I have shot from the public because I don't want to give anti-hunters even more ammo to use against us.
And for you people who say the officer should not have questioned him, what if a middle eastern looking man were walking in downtown Houston in a huge crowd, wearing traditional muslim attire, large beard, with a similar rifle strapped to his back. He is shouting something about the end times coming soon and how infidels will pay for their rejection of Allah. Would you want an officer to check him out if you were walking near him? Remember, he has not committed any crime. He is just peacefully walking down the street expressing his religious beliefs (1st amendment).

So now we are comparing mythical bombs to guns? Jesus MF christ!
1. Carrying a long-gun in public in Texas is LEGAL
2. Asking someone for ID, when no crime has been committed is horseshite!
3. Detaining someone when there is no probable cause a crime has been committed is ILLEGAL.

Alright fine, I changed the scenario to a rifle.

I definitely think carrying a weapon down a public street creates reasonable suspicion

Some might consider this communicating a threat, against the law! If he points the weapon at someone then yeah, but in the first senerio the guy didnt do any of this! Quit moving the goal posts!

Probable cause?
You don't know what you're talking about.

So a cop shouldn't investigate when someone calls 911 about a man with a gun?

I'm still curious about this distinction of open carry vs. concealed in terms of one being seen as a threat and the other not. Is it because you just don't see pistols as threatening behavior but you see carrying rifles as threatening behavior and cause for suspicion?
Because there is a legitimate reason someone would conceal carry. There's very few conceivable legitimate reasons a person would walk around downtown Houston with an AR strapped to his side.

Should people with CCW permits be stopped when cops can tell they are carrying?
I notice evidence of concealed guns all the time here in Louisiana. I see them all the time at events downtown. Almost always white males between the ages of 30 and 55. Should cops detain them just to make sure
Your answer is in the law. If you called the police and said you saw a white male 30 to 55 carrying a concealed gun they could legally disarm him and pat him down. It's a condition that CCH permit holders agree to.
LINK
"A permittee armed with a handgun in accordance with this Section shall notify any police officer who approaches the permittee in an official manner or with an identified official purpose that he has a weapon on his person, submit to a pat down, and allow the officer to temporarily disarm him..."

What did he do in order for 911 to be called in the first place is the question? Simply carrying the gun?

Alright, let's say you live in a mostly white, suburban neighborhood outside of Houston. Your kids are playing in the yard when they see 6 black males in their mid 20's walking down the sidewalk. They are all wearing white tank tops, sagging military camo pants, and all 6 have rifles strapped on their backs. You don't call the cops do you? You would be outraged if an officer stopped them to check ID and ask where they are going wouldn't you?

I'd be outraged that the officer took the job in the first place.

So a Christian sharing the gospel and warning people of the end times and their need for salvation is now a threat?

Ok
Jones v. Clark
No. 09-3574 (7th Cir. 2011)
"...An officer is not entitled to qualified immunity when they detain an individual and can't point to a single circumstance that could have led them to believe an individual was engaged in criminal activity, nor that any federal or state law can justify the stop or support the view that the individual was committing a crime....

That's the kind of deflecting answer I expected.

What answer do you want? No, I wouldn't be outraged if some stupid cop didn't come up and talk to them.

So are you just anti-cop in general? What is your reasoning? We don't need them?
