My Dad is going to attempt to build one this spring.
It's going to be a disaster

Been heavily researching this. Found a guy in houston that does them, but I'm worried if I sell my house I'll just have to fill it in

They look great and I would want one. My biggest fear would be that they would become a mosquito nesting ground.

Imagine if it became a snake nesting ground

Part of the selection of plants is selecting plants that attract natural predators of Mosquitos. Designers claim they attract less Mosquitos than normal pools.

For anyone in Louisiana enjoy your death by water moccasin

Initial cost is comparable to a normal pool, but there is no recurring costs for chemicals.

Can you put fish in it? If so, that would be cool.

Some big monster horse flys

You wouldn't want it in the swimming portion but I've seen some where they put fish in the regeneration/filtration area

What about algae. I feel like 3 years in this thing is getting filthy without serious upkeep.

I live in the city, a snake would have to squirm up from buffalo bayou. Does chlorine scare off snakes anyway?

There are dyes that can block algae from growing in golf courses ponds (restricts photosynthetic light), so maybe they use something like that.
