Specs on westerner was an absolute bust. Any other places with a good bourbon selection...some higher end wines would be a plus too.

Maybe Specs downtown on Smith street? It's huge

Spec's on Smith St. near downtown is the best.
Spec's on Weslayan isn't bad either.

Did anyone mention Spec's on Smith St yet?? If not, go there

Find a goody goody near you. Far superior selection than specs.

Have gotten Old Forrester Birthday Bourbon, Rock Hill Farms, and a few others from there.

Like everyone has said, Specs on Smith is your best option. You can also try Houston Wine Merchant on Shepherd for high end wines.
ETA: Not sure what you're looking for, but usually the high end bourbons fly off the shelf at Specs on Smith.

I've found a couple of good bourbons on the shelf at odd times at a couple of the Richard's in Houston also. It doesn't have near the selection of Smith St. but it always seems to have a couple of things hanging around.

Houston Wine Merchant on Shephard would be a great stop for a smaller store

How is this even possible? How can a liquor store be overrated?
