I am not sure I want an old guy coming in here (Isn't it funny when we consider 30 old?). I would be ok with him, but I want someone that will play with us for a while.

a while doesn't really matter, we need the best 2-3 years out of a player, who cares about years 4-6.

I like Williams and isn't he a louisiana guy? He will fit in well in the defense Ryan runs. You can get two good years out of him. If the price is right go get him.

Trae Waynes just ran a 4.3 at the combine just saying......
And I dont wanta hear the "we draft bad CBs though!!"
We have a new guy evaluating talent this year in case y'all forgot....

Doesn't matter. I prefer to bring in proven talent. Get a vet in here to play with Lewis and we are looking good. Obviously I'd want Maxwell, but I highly doubt that'll happen. Culliver and Brown seem realistic, and I'd be happy with either one.

I really like Waynes... He's the only CB worthy of a 1st round grade.
He reminds me of a 6'1 Jason Verrett.... Very smooth, polished, instinctive, and is a natural CB. Doesn't have a weakness.
Just wasn't sure what type of athlete he was going into the combine. Well, after today we all know that he's an elite athlete. Really like him. Top 10 player in the draft. Would really like to get him.
But the thing is, we have so many needs on both sides of the ball. Gotta look at how deep each position is.
DB is the weakest in the draft IMO. Waynes is the only CB worth a 1st round pick and Collins is the only safety. After that, there's a big drop off.
Actually a pretty deep class of edge rushers. You could get a very good player in the 2nd at this spot.
And OL isn't as deep as edge rushers, but still solid depth. You can find a good OL in the 2nd.
Obviously I don't mind where we go in the 1st. But I don't think Beasley will be there at #13. If he is, take him no brained but I don't think he will be there. And if he's not there, I would rather have Waynes over someone like Dupree, Thompson, etc. I would like to get Waynes or go best available OL at #13, assuming Beasley is gone.
Am interested to see what Shane Ray does at his pro day though.

Marcus peters could be a stud

Sterling Moore
or
Tramon Williams for a year.

I hope Ifo Ekpre Olomu falls to us in the 3rd. He would be gone before that if not tearing his knee up before the Rose Bowl.

He's a good player, but I'm not sure he fits in our current scheme.

I hate that he's likely to drop to the late 1st, and going to go to a good team.

The other factor is Trae Waynes may be the only CB that could deserve consideration at #13.

Agreed, but the value just isn't there at 13 for him. None of these CBs in the draft seem very good at all.
I agree with you, there doesn't appear to be any real sure fire studs in the secondary period this year. There are plenty with some promise, to be sure, but they all appear to need time to develop. That is just not where we are right now.....enough of the projects.

I agree with this, but at some point you also have to build for the future. I think the best option would be to sign someone like Tramon Williams or Cromartie, then draft Waynes (if he's the best available).

Waynes is a top 10 talent IMO. He cemented that with his 40 time.
Also, this comes from a Clemson fan who hopes Maxwell gets crazy paid and does awesome, but he is insanely overrated. He's an average number two CB. Almost all his INTs were tipped balls or passes behind him.
We want ZERO part of signing him to a huge contract.

quote:I agree with you. He's not a big name guy, so he's not considered a popular pick right now. But the kid can flat out ball. Said it earlier, he's a 6'1 version of Jason Verrett, who had an excellent rookie year before getting hurt.

And IMO, Waynes is the only CB worth a 1st round grade. I really don't like the other top CBs in the draft that you can get in the late 1st and 2nd round. But there are some decent value picks at Cb in the 3rd / 4th round.

I'd love to see Tramon Williams come home and play for us. Great defender and a hard-nosed tackler.
On the cheap, of course.
Make it happen, L00mi$.

Has nothing to do with this thread but just wondering what you think of Beasley....
