I've heard he's solid at the plate
That hasn't been the case so far against LSU's pitchers.

his defense
Still needs work to be a starting 3rd baseman.

He will likely get there. He does have the power and the tools. But his issues seem to be more on the mental side. Meaning pitch selection, plate discipline... things like that.

Hale had two errors when he normally plays 1B he started 2B that game.

Hale played more at 2nd last year than he did at 1st.

It doesnt matter. Hale is a competent 2nd baseman. Not counting those errors is skewing the stats bigtime.

It is but i think the lack of gap power might show up all year. Hopefully i'm wrong

Single hitters:
Stevenson
Laird
Robertson
Chinea (somehow)
Zardon

Chinea and Zardon can probably tie into one every now and then but at this point i dont see it happening often. They could prove me wrong though.

That's over half our lineup. It just seems like way too often it takes 3 hits to get a run across. When the whole lineup is clicking at the same time like the end of last regular season it's not an issue.

Naw i just cant remember the last ball he put in a gap. Mo Vaughn got to second on balls in the gap.

All of our doubles seem to be on balls hit down the line. Which is fine. Just like to see some power with these new balls. I know Foster put one in the gap, not sure about who else (sans sciv homer of course which counts). I didnt catch all the innings over the weekend due to mardi gras. So i may have missed one.

Once the weather starts warming up I think we will see an increase in power. The ball travels further and hitters are more comfortable with increased heat. This team probably won't hit too many home runs, but I expect to see a few more balls hit in the gaps later in the year.

Probably. I understand it's early. But slugging is up all over the country. And up dramatically. Like 400%.

And it's cold elsewhere too, even colder than it is here. But so far in the very small sample size i havent seen any increase in slugging from us.

Not sure how Lazarre still has a job. This is unacceptable.

It will take him a few years to recalibrate after getting comfortable with the Raph Rhymes scoring method.

Because we don't have a shitty coach. A good coach will use this time of year to experiment with lineups and batting order. In this way, when we get to money time, he'll know on whom he can rely.

It's a fine line. I said this after sunday's game. I'm good with the tinkering, especially for midweek games. Sciambra had a great weekend, and I think deserved a shot. He looked bad out there. But then again, so did Laird which is odd.

I'm not melting like most people. Way too early for that. I'm not happy with the lack of clutch hits and the lack of extra base hits. But I'm not worried about the defense and I've been satisfied with the pitching thus far. Godfrey and Norman had "shakey" first outings, but it wasn't for lack of physical or mental ability.

What was the good coach doing during all the practice time from the fall and winter scrimmages? Was he not watching and evaluating? Sometimes good coaches "tweek" the lineup, maybe give one or two players a shot. I'm not sure I've ever seen a coach play the JV team in game 3 of the opening weekend series against a quality opponent.

you can't tell exactly how a player will do until the lights go on and he is playing a team other than themselves.

Completely different feelings.
