Ah, looked over his name when looking at WR's already drafted.

Could Chris Conley (WR from UGA) be an option here? I understand he is very raw but he tested well at the combine and could learn a lot from Colston.

Short memory on those pick 6's?

Even shorter memory on Lee leading us to the greatest start our program has ever had in 2011? Granted Lee was a senior that year but he does deserve credit.

I support Anthony Jennings and I will stand behind whoever plays quarterback for us. Will never bash a college kid for trying his hardest. That being said, Lee had an NFL arm and got a shot at making it in the league. At this point, Jennings will not have that same opportunity because his arm is far behind what Lee's was.

We aren't sniffing a super bowl with our current roster. I think we should deal Brees now and get picks/players for him while we still can. Otherwise he eats up $50 mil. in cap space the next two years while we have a mediocre team then he walks for nothing.

Jordan Cameron is available. He's had some injury problems but he's produced when healthy. Probably too expensive though.

What guys were found outside the 1st rd last year at wr? No sarcasm intended, I just don't remember. I know a ton of rookie wr's had good years last year but most of the ones I'm thinking of went in the first, i.e., Beckham, Evans, Benjamin, etc.
Old username. Got a new computer and couldn't remember the more current one. Might be a good thing to start with a clean slate
Easy tiger. I wasn't specifically talking about Landon Collins. He was a great player in high school and college. I was simply using him as an example of a common trend.

As for your sarcasm about the "significantly slower time", if you watch the combine and see them superimpose the 40's of someone who runs a 4.5 with someone who runs a 4.3, there is a "significant" difference.

Here's an example of Amari Cooper/Devante Parker vs. Kevin White (4.45 vs. 4.35). You're telling me the separation at the end of their runs is not "significant" enough to produce a huge difference in a game? And that is the difference between a tenth of a second. Educate yourself.

Under 1%? I know thats sarcastic but you'd be kidding yourself to really think that. Time and time again we've made draft choices that are contrary to what the media/fanbase thinks we should do. At some point you have to stop looking at need and draft for talent. If all of the top pass rushers are gone, it would be easy to see us drafting the top wr available. Mario Edwards or Danielle Hunter could still be there when we pick in round 2 so theres no need to reach for a DE with our first pick

Chances We Draft a WR in Rd. 1

What are the odds that we look at taking either Devante Parker or Kevin White with our first pick?

I know it is nowhere near our most pressing need but we do need a big possession guy to replace Colston.

Obviously we are going to be looking for one of the top pass rushers at our spot but if all of the big names are gone, what are the chances that we pick a receiver who could immediately step in to replace Colston then address DL/DB in the later rounds? We have seen the immediate impact rookie WR's can have in the past few years and talent like that may help us more next year than drafting a DB/DE that has to be coached up for a year or two.

Our window of opportunity with Brees at the help is closing every year so it would not surprise me at all to see this happen. I know we spent our first pick on Cooks last year but those two guys have completely different skill sets to compliment Cooks and stabilize our receiving corps for years to come.

True. 4.53 is moving pretty well for a 230 lb safety

Inflated 40 Yard Dash Times

It's funny to me how every 4 or 5 star position player comes out of high school supposedly running in the 4.3's or 4.4's and then they get to the combine after three to four years of college training and run significantly slower times. Our guys have really impressed in the running portion at the combine this year but there are a lot of guys who have apparently gotten slower since high school.

I know the electronic timing makes a huge difference compared to hand timing but it just goes to show that you can't believe what you hear about a guy's 40 time coming out of high school.

For example, Landon Collins was "lightning fast" coming out of high school, running a 4.3. He just clocked in at an unofficial 4.53. Theres nothing wrong with that time and he is very fast. Just something I see every year that I find interesting.

When will he be getting significant playing time? In our base 4-3 defense I think our starting linebackers are pretty well entrenched (Louis, Beckwith, and Jones).

I know Steele has a reputation for running a 3-4 and in that set I certainly believe Garrett would be the other inside backer but how much will we be lining up in that formation considering our lack of depth at LB?

Garrett is obviously a very talented player and I want to see him on the field, just wondering where he will fit in this fall.

Who Takes Over in Left Field?

Posted by bayoutiger7 on 2/22/15 at 1:37 pm
I don't know if this has already been discussed or not but who do y'all think should take over as the permanent starter in left field? Obviously Stevenson and Laird will be mainstays in center and right, respectively, but its tough to say who will be the everyday guy in left.

Foster has played really well to this point and he's made clutch plays for us in the past. Obviously Fraley has all the tools but he's struggled a little bit thus far. Is it too early to say who takes over as the starter?

Either way, it's a good problem to have when you're having to decide between two very talented players.

Once the weather starts warming up I think we will see an increase in power. The ball travels further and hitters are more comfortable with increased heat. This team probably won't hit too many home runs, but I expect to see a few more balls hit in the gaps later in the year.

What are the odds that Deichmann takes over at 3rd when he gets healthy? I've heard he's solid at the plate but how does his defense compare with the other guys we've tried at 3rd so far?

I'm not too worried about the loss tonight. Even great teams have a few hiccups along the way.

Does anyone have an explanation as to why we've struggled in the field through these first few games? Especially the infield. Is it just a few guys settling in to new positions or could it be something else? It's just surprising to watch a team that is usually near the top of the SEC in fielding pct. struggle like this. I know it's a small sample size thus far.

Franks is a solid prospect but he's not even close to the athlete Pryor was.

Exhibit A: Pryor 93 Yd. TD Run

Hopefully he's smarter than Pryor but I don't see Franks outrunning an NFL defense.

Apparently he is out of shape.

He should still be getting a few minutes a game regardless. The guy is 7 feet tall. There is no way he is so out of shape that he couldn't stand in the lane with his arms up and cloud people's vision for 5-7 minutes a game. Mickey and Martin could use a breather. He can't be any worse than Darcy.

I've seen a lot of people talking about how Johnson is better than Quinn. Can someone explain that rationale? They were both similarly rated coming out of high school, they are roughly the same size and both had fantastic high school careers with Quinn having one of the best of all time. I understand that Quinn had some critical, costly drops last year, but does that mean the guy can't play? I think there's something to be said for experience and at this point, Quinn has it and Johnson doesn't. I would be shocked if our opening game 3-wr set didn't consist of some combination of Dural/Dupre/Diarse/Quinn.
