Yes this again. The argument can be made that we were deserving last year. Very close to making it. We are a better team this year and not making the NCAA this season would only mean one thing... underachieving.

Don't misunderstand. I think we have a good chance of making the tourney.

But the only 2 upper classmen argument doesn't hold water with me. This is basketball not football. Yes players will get better with coaching and maturity but freshmen regularly head to the NBA.

As our bench goes and players not named Mickey and Martin... Strongest supporting cast we have had in a long time.

none of these are locks. If any of these teams lose 2-3 games remaining in the regular season, then it will be quite questionable for them to get in the tourney, barring a strong SEC trny run.

Don't get me wrong, the losses to Mizzou, MSU and AU are inexcusable. We have underachieved based specifically on those losses. Win those 3 - as LSU should have - and LSU is coasting to a NCAAT bid.

If the last 3 games are any indication, the team is getting better.

But I still think the talent argument is overblown and used as a crutch.

JG scored 35ppg in JUCO and has struggled with immensely with the level-up.
TQ was a deer in the headlights last year, but has improved tremendously this year, but still very inconsistent. 4 year player that will pay dividends.
Horsnby is solid, but still a role player and stuggles with inconsistency.
Patterson has been a pleasant surprise, but is still a FR and just now getting sig playing time.

The bigs (5 spot) are a mess. Malone gives minutes, but it's 100% hit or miss. No one else has stepped up.

That leaves Mickey - very consistent and the mainstay of the team. And Martin - very inconsistent, plays soft all too often, but when he's playing aggressive and focused, he is a beast.

But in the whole, LSU can't walk on to the court and beat teams because we out talent them. We have 2 good/very good 3-4 spots, developing players at 1-2 and almost zilch at 5.

I think if the G play was one year advanced (JG-SR, Hornsby-SR, TQ-JR, Patterson-SO) then there is no excuse at all.

Again, this is IMO.

4 of these 5 will make it:

Arky, UGA, Ole Miss, TAMU, LSU.

Most of these teams play each other to figure out which 4.

Now, we're just playing for seeding.
I hope we stay right where we are, unless we win out through the SEC tourney we wont break a 7 seed which means going to the sweet sixteen would be much more difficult as a 7-10 seed. Id like a 11 or 12 seed to be honest.

Hell no. Not a done deal.

We go 5-1 and win 1 in SECT we are in.

4-2 we may be in with 2 wins in SECT.

3-3 we need make the SECT finals and pray small conference #1 seeds win their tourneys.

Firmly on the bubble with anything less than 5-1 .

I agree with everything you have said pretty much. The losses to Missouri, MSU, AU and A&M should never have happened. I add A&M because the if any of the three (refs had done a better job, players had shot better, or coaches had coached in the 2nd half) had happened we would have won that game. Should have won by 20 considering how awesome we played in the first half.

I realize you don't play your best every game but had we won just half of the games we lost that we should have won then this thread would be about what seed and not just making the tourney.

This team is far from the tourney at this point. They are down to a margin of error of two losses in my opinion. Lose three more and they're out.

Problem is, they should already be in. We still need 5 more wins.
