re: Brick Mortar question (sacked finish over done)

That's a sloppy job. Tell your mason to fix it

I hate the sloppy Mexican brick work that's popular now days. I miss the old tool jointing or raking days when a masons skill could be seen and was appreciated. Anyway, if what you're wanting is that white film off you can wash it. Muriatic acid a lot of times is not recommended on newer bricks. They make alternative products though (vanatrol, sure klean etc). Just ask your brick supplier what the recommend. Then get those messicans back out there to scrub that shite and pressure wash it.

i second sure clean 600(Prosoco), but only after the brick mortar has dried and you have had a talk with your mason. The mason should've built you a sample board and done a trial run of his sack washing and had you sign off on it before he started smearing mortar on that brick.

That would have been awesome…

Like others have said, just wait it out.
It will change somewhat, and so will your minds.
You have the rest of your life to "fix it".
Good that you had the balls to do something different. Don't forget where you put em.

Um nah it's defibitely some terrible.
Solid white looking.
They've done 3/5 of house already.
A) how difficult is it to do yourself with the chemical?'
B) how bad will I get raped hiring someone to do it.
C) should i let then finish the whole home the same, so that it can all be fixed from the same white start?

You shouldn't change the finish half way through. Work it all together but talk to them about the plan for the finished look.

Does anyone know how difficult /time consuming the process of fixing is?

you'll just have to wash/brush the sheet out of the house afterwards. the wash isn't that expensive, but you'll have to buy a little pump sprayer to applt, and a couple acid brush heads for scrubbing.
Make sure to do a test run on the back of the house to be sure it will work. You can get a 150 sq/ft or so out of that 1 gallon prosoco sureklean 600, i think? Just pull up the spec sheet online and pick up a gallon for testing. g'luck

Will the acid mess up the mortar joints?
Also will the acid remove the color of the bricks?
Most are red but there are scattered black bricks and bricks with shite paint.

No. It may or may not affect the face of the brick, depending on what kind it is. Ask your brick supplier. If muriatic is not recommend they will tell you what to use. Likely Sure Klean or Vanatrol. And acid washing is part of the brick layer's job. It's not your job. Make them do it.

Heres the thing.
When we told him we want the whole thing cleaned because it is too white, he was 3/4 done with the last side of the house.
So for the final 1/4 (the upper right fourth) he did not do the sack finish.
He insisted that when he cleans the other 3/4, the whole wall will be the exact same color.
I am worried that the upper 1/4 that is not currently sacked finished will look different from the other 3/4 of the wall that he will be cleaning.
Any thoughts?

It ought to be ok. The white film will come off when they acid wash it and match what they didn't sack. There will probably be a little difference in the mortar joints on the ones they just cut with a trowel and didn't sack, but I doubt the untrained eye will be able to tell. It should be ok

I don't know if changing that close to being done was the right thing. It will probably always be noticeable, at least to you. I would have just let them finish and then tried whatever "fixes" you wanted on the whole house so it would at least appear consistent.
I also know that the look of the brick changes after it is first laid.

Muratic. I would do it myself if I were you. Save you a couple hundred bucks. Just wear gloves and eye protection

It's part of the bricklayers job to wash the work. It won't cost him any extra, plus they know how to do it.

Most new brick doesn't tolerate muratic acid.
