A Google search brings up a number of articles as an HC candidate. Could one play ruin his career? I would say that there is a pretty good chance this haunts him for a long time.

It's pretty much the only way they lose. And, it's a risky play too. Tipped ball could have lost it for them too.

Don't let Wilson off the hook. Don't most plays have a secondary option if the original doesn't look good.
He had no business throwing the ball in that situation. But, yeah, with one timeout and Marshawn Lynch as your RB, calling it in the first place was pretty stupid.

Yeah. A lot of blame will be put on PC, but an OC in the NFL shouldn't be that dumb.

Carroll allowed the call, period.
If you pass, you do it play action, not shotgun.
Worst call ever, given the circumstances.

Wilson's mistake (and it was a huge mistake) was not putting the ball on the WR. You can't throw it out in front of the WR in that situation. You have to put it on the numbers or a little behind. That's the difference between an elite QB and someone like Wilson.

quote:Everything about that play was messed up. The play clock was winding down; I'm not sure they had time to make an audible at that point. Regardless, an OC shouldn't put them in that position, but I do think this has been an issue over the years where he doesn't want to run Lynch when down near the endzone.

The issue is with the 2nd time out they burned at 1:06.
They were facing a sticky situation on 3rd and 4th down if they didn't convert there. It'd be hard to substitute if they burned the last one after a failed attempted.
The receivers splits were too tight as well and f your gonna throw in that sotuation, it has to be high and to the back corners of the endZone. Throwing into such a congested space increased the risks of a bad event.

quote:It still took them forever to get set-up. Probably because they were scheming for a pass play, not a run play. If they would have ran a simple run play, they would've probably had 10+ more seconds anyways.

Carroll allowed the call.
He owned up to it in post game.
Passing on 2nd down w a TO remaining from the 1 could have been acceptable call, but not from the shotgun after you just ran it down to the 1 on the previous play.
A play action pass is not going to get your route jumped.
There is no excuse, and Pete Carroll will live with it, along with his team.

quote:He may have taken credit because that's what HCs are expected to do. I want to know what really happened though. Revell has a history (see the GIF above) of not running Lynch in obvious situations. I find it hard to believe that two NFL coaches (and not coaching the Raiders or Browns) agreed that it was the correct call at the time.
