I bought a used guitar online recently from an out of state Guitar Center.
Should I bring it to my local luthier and have it checked out and set up right?

Something feel wrong with the guitar? Wouldn't hurt to have him look at it, especially if you've worked with him before.

No nothing feels wrong but I'm a beginner and don't know much about the workings of an electric yet.
The guy at our local shop comes highly recommended

I'm with the others in this thread...first time in my life I've ever heard this word.
Also, music board might give better answers?

Pay him a visit, especially if he's got a good rep with people you know. At the very least, you'll learn a thing or two about your instrument. The guy I go to in Orlando is a prince--just a fun guy to shoot the shite with and honest as the day is long.

Probably a good idea. They can check out how it's set up, adjust truss rod, bridge height, action, etc. I bring mine to Tim's in BR from time to time.

I'd skip the luthier if I was you.

What kind of guitar is it? How much did you spend on it? What needs fixing?

When you said "luthier," I assumed you had an acoustic. What exactly do you want the luthier to do to your electric?
