Is there a more ridiculous exercise in America than filing taxes?

It gets more absurd each year. I do them myself as an accountant and am just generally pi$$ed off about the whole process. Waiting on companies to send out information, getting info in Feb from banks for IRA, 1098 forms, 1099-B, INT, DIV, and now HSA forms, W-2 for employers, 1099-MISC, and looking for my charitable donations, etc. Then hoping it's right, and then figuring out if I paid medical expenses out of pocket or with HSA, dependent care credits, calculating medical mileage, donations, etc.
The best is when I get a re-stated 1099-B or 1099-DIV form on April 12th after I have filed my taxes.

Today's mail contained 2 1099s. Still waiting on some interest statements. Tax year 2014 is gonna be bloody.

I'd spend a ton more money and sending everything to a CPA firm and then time trying to explain whatever happened over the course of the year.

When I worked at a CPA firm those were the best.

maybe we should give a president a try that wants to rethink this process...

Don't ever fill that out, especially if it was "illegal". I guess if you got a W2-G it was legal though.

I decided to pass on a career as an accountant the day my sister passed the CPA exam.

I have always had my stuff ready to give to the CPA by late January. Now I'm dealing with a bunch of clowns that, unless they can be coerced into selling a few projects, have forced me to file extensions and consider Sept. 15 as my filing date.

yeah, I pretty much just throw away every piece of mail I get everyday so who the frick knows what I'm doing over here

I'd get super ticked off after completing a return to file, only to then have to file an extension, forget about it for a few months, and then have to go back and file with updated info. Or being told to file the return as is and then have to go back and file an amended return.

That would suck. I'm always pretty considerate of my CPA because I view her as a potential cellmate after the audit.
