Alabama fans, will Mel Tucker be the DC if smart decides to leave next year? I could see this happening... Give him a year to learn the system and let him take over the reigns after smart moves on.

It's possible but I think it's a one year, career rehabilitation type thing.

Just my imo, but I think if Smart was going to leave he would have done so by now. He sure appears to expect to be the next HC at Alabama at some point, again only imo.

No, we'll hire Muschamp away from the cow pasture.

Yeah. That's exactly what it's like. You do realize LSU had him on their DC radar, right? Also, the guy has had zero employment gaps during his entire coaching career. He may or may not be exceptional at Alabama, but he was never going to be without a job in 2015.

I don't think he'll be at Bama too long, like Cap said.
Think he'll springboard back when he gets the chance...

we were melting because we might hire him. he was below steele on our wish list because he's coached some truly awful pass defenses

His hire is much closer to the thank god i have a decent job lined up behind the safety of saban than he's the nice heir apparent to take the reigns over Kirby? Why did Nicky never promote him before?

No one thinks he's the heir apparent to Kirby.

Nick had him as a GA at Mich State and after a year of coaching DBs at Miami (OH), Saban gave him the DB job at LSU (sounds like a promotion from Miami of OH). So, right out of the gate, you're wrong. Also, OSU promoted him from DB coach to co-DC. The Browns promoted him from DB coach to DC. The Jags promoted him from DC to Asst HC/DC.
The man has been promoted before. Like many coaches, when there is turnover at the HC job, he's taken a step back at new jobs, but he's always worked back up in those new jobs.
Let's not act like you or anyone else on this board is fully aware of his reputation in the coaching ranks. LSU fans may have been "melting" at the possibility of him as your DC, but not all were. Also, the mere fact that he was considered for your DC spot and that Miles interviewed him tells you that he's more well thought of by those in coaching than he is by you...Baw.
