Firepit or outdoor fireplace kits

Looking for suggestions on a nice looking, functional fire feature for back patio. Building a permanent structure was quoted around $10k so I don't think I want to do that.
I've seen fireplace "kits" but no idea on how they perform or hold up.
Fire pit isn't my preferred way but if I have to I'd like to find something substantial and good looking.
Any suggestions or experiences? Btw I'm good with wood burning only. Doesn't have to be gas.

I always liked the ones built into the ground with a small raised lip around the edge. That way, you can put a cover over them in the summer and barely know they're there

Here is mine. I plan on trying to build a small seating area around it with the same type stone. I plan on using much bigger stones though.

Would you want one built out of an old antique bathtub with lava rocks, runs on propane? I build 'em

Get a isokern, go to local brick yard, price it and get the name of a installer that can also brick it for you, probably run you $5,000

Get an isokern, they start at 36" wide and go up to 72". Very easy to put together, will run you between $3,000-$6,000 depending on size. You can put either brick or stone on the outside

What im planning to do is order a Pavestone 35 in. Outdoor Fireplace Insert Kit from home depot. Then choose the color of stones and order 2 pallets of large, 2 pallets of medium and a pallet of mini.

Thanks for the suggestions. Never heard of Isokern - it looks cool but do they make specific ones for outdoor?
Sugar kettle looks badass too - will look into going with a built in one of those if I can't figure out the full on fireplace for a decent cost.

they are specifically made for outdoor use. you can put them inside as well of course but the majority are used outdoors. They are made from volcanic pumice taken from Iceland.

A buddy of mine just built a firepit using a Pavestone kit from Home Depot. He said that he was very pleased with the outcome.
